Their entire economy is tourism based and they have the audacity to charge this amount for a 30 minute museum that is frankly a trivial attraction anyway (see attached photo for prices). When I visited there was not a single other individual... which says it all. The price for foreigners highlights the level of greed and disrespect - Which was my thoughts entirely with regards to how the Maldives is heading as a consequence of an inattentive government. Displeased would be an understatement.

There was a huge building. but inside mostly empty. There are some items, that are called historical items. but they are only 80' 90 's. Maldives currency is invalid in that museum.bcz they do not accept any cash. only card payment is available.its westing time to visit that museum.

It's actually not a musium, but exposition of some, not that interesting subjects from late Maldivian rullers. There are also some post stamps and banknotes. Frankly a lost time, even though Male doesn't offer much to see. I would recommend some training in European museums for the responsible staff.

It's a waste of time and money. I feel really sorry when I give some establishment a poor or terrible rating but that's how I felt about it.

There are 100 times better museum in India. You can definitely leave this one out of your itinerary without missing anything.

To add insult to the injury, they don't accept cash payment for the tickets. It has to be paid by the card.

4 of us friends went to see this. They said they only accept card payments but we only had cash. So even though we were told we couldn't visit, we paid for everything with a card that a friend of ours had. That's $40 for the four of us. I thought the money was too much because there is nothing important to see here. When we entered here, several doors were closed. Very sad about this place. And they have kept all important things away from people. It seems that the things we currently have are kept here. The existence of Buddhism in the past is proved by the only precious Puskola book here. Don't go see. Do important work.

Price has gone up and lots of things have been removed. Almost nothing to see and most of what they do have is younger than me. Like 90s or 80s. The descriptions of what is there tell you nothing except obvious details (this is a lamp.) The end... Not only that but its only 20mvr for maldivians but 155mvr for foreigners. Rediculous upcharge just to see 10 minutes of things only a couple decades old.

National museum is close to the royal palace. Downstairs is the galleries devoted to the ancient and medieval periods and upstairs is a display representing modern period of Maldives. Items display weaponry and religious relics engraved in Arabic and Thaana. It’s not wow but if you love history you could consider visiting. 7$ entrance fee is a bit high for it.

well laid out; not a great deal to display yet. It has the feel of the start of a project

there's 2 floors of exhibits, widely spaced to fill up the space.
the attendant at the police exhibit was well spoken, had good English and obviously knew his subject. The nail bomb exhibit was a surprise - its the remains of the actual bomb, including the mobile phone, the timer and the nails...

I didn't realise just how many uses there are for coconut palm products!

They don't take cash here and their payment portal did not work for us (tried for two days) would have been nice to see the museum but they need a better payment system.
