Happened to stop by on my way to the sculpture garden. Convenient, as I wanted to see it anyway.

Dissapointingly, the monument is currently closed off while work takes place on the grounds. So you can see it from afar, but not as well as otherwise.

It lacks seating to enable one to sit and contemplate.

2 stars only because of the current limited access.

If you are looking to spend a nice quiet and affordable time with a date, this location makes a nice stroll though it can get pretty warm.

The environment is peaceful with not many people depending on the time you visit and can get you some pretty photos. Parking is pretty limited unless you are cool with roadside parking.

This is a very good war memorial to commemorate those lost during Malaysia's fight for freedom from the Japanese in WW2.
You enter at the top and walk down past the cenotaph and on to the memorial set in bronze I think.
Toilets and gift shops here as well

Yes the same person that curated the Iwo Jima Memorial in Virginia USA curated this monument. Although the memorial is still in good shape, the surrounding areas definitely needs some maintenance. Lots of insignia of battalions that fought in Malaya has been vandalised or lost. Such a shame. Need some sprucing up

The National Monument is a memorial that stands in tribute to the Malaysians who fought and died for Malaysia. The conflicts specifically mentioned on the memorial are the two world wars and the War of Independence. The two parts of the monument are the bronze sculpture and cenotaph, both commerotaing essentially the same thing. The cenotaph is much like any other and is in the shape of an obelisk, but less pointed. The bronze sculpture is far more impressive of the two. Set on a low hill, it’s an imposing sculpture depicting 5 Malaysian soldiers striding forward and stepping over the 2 fallen bodies of enemy combatants.

The heroic scene is stylistically reminiscent of US Marine Corps War Memorial depicting Iwo Jima.

Several mouments and a large garden paying tribute to the fallen soldiers of WW1, WW2 and the independence war.

Anyone visiting KL should try to pay a visit - you only need 30 mins or so - but we should always remember those who gave their lives so we can live the way we do today.

We visited as part of a KL city tour by Metro Travel. This is a place of respect which is well maintained and a fitting tribute. You don’t need long but it is nice to stroll around and look at the various parts
I recommend you visit
