This area is called Merdeka district where you find the main highlights in the capital. It’s a late 19th century building. The building originally housed the offices of the British colonial administration, and was known as Government Offices.

This is one of the sights to see in KL. It was Sunday when I came, and the street was closed. It was a good day to explore around and take pictures. If you’re into architecture, then you will enjoy this building.

The sheltered garden at the back of the building is a nice place to sit down and relax listening to the fountains. Many tourists are just dropped from the bus in front the Mughal palace, a former Governement building as it is a good back ground for photos.

While you can't go inside, the building is worth visiting as it looks really nice from merdeka square outside, and you can also walk behind it along the river.

Although we couldn't enter the building, this complex of 19th century British colonial structures is a great spot to visit both day and night - and preferably both. We walked by randomly during the day and took some pictures. However, we returned at night when there were loads of food trucks. It was so much fun to sit with the locals and enjoy inexpensive food in a very local environments. The backdrop of such an amazing structure added to the beauty of the experience!

My favorite building to visit and walk around but sadly we were not allowed to enter. Unfortunately, much of the building is in a bad state of repair. A homeless woman was feeding about a dozen cats in the courtyard and there was a terrible urine smell. The water fountains are broken and most are missing. Could be a gorgeous venue for weddings but is in terrible state of disrepair. Hope the city council sees the value and prioritizes renovation.

A 19th century building. Used to be government offices during the British colonial administration. Pity it is not open to the public. Impressive architecture.

Can tourist see the building from inside??
Is it open for public??

Yes, you can visit inside the building but there are certain hours in the morning where once can visit inside the building. But inside there is nothing much to see and you can avoid that visit.
Instead the walk along the whole street is much better if sun is not too harsh.
Is it possible to do a late night tour like at 6:30? We have a short layover and want to do a night tour

Can tourists visit inside the Sultan Abdul Samad Building independently or only with an organized tour?

You can see it from outside without a tour for sure but not inside. I don't know if tours even offer to go inside the building.
