There are many reasons why one would go to Chinatown in many cities in the world including admiring the art, culture and traditions. Buying Chinese food products including bakkwa, my brother’s favourite, a similar product to jerky. Many Chinese cuisines available here and some of the earliest restaurant for eg Hainanese chicken rice was right here and still here right now. The copies or fake designer bags, shoes, watches can be bought in the street market opening times 9am to 10pm. Practice your bargaining skills; mine is to walk away.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 September 2023

Many stray sellers with artificial watches. This is the only place I found sugar cane juice in Malaysia. Do not forget to bargainVisited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 September 2023
- Alison HSydney, Australia10 contributionsNot just a night market. Also open during the dayGood fun, haggling expected and all very well spirited and tourist friendly. Lots of good quality replica bags/clothes/watches etc especially if you ask specifically for best quality and they understand you mean ‘best’. If I was travelling alone I would prefer visiting the markets during the day as it’s a bit of a maze in the backstreets and easy to get lost, especially if you don’t have a good map or internet activity on your phone.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023
- simonebbMelbourne, Australia253 contributionsLove the atmosphere at night. A must do whilst in KLAlways a fun place to visit. I love the atmosphere at night and went around 6pm. Must try some of the street food whilst there - it is amazing! For goods make sure you bargain/barter hard. We started just above half the asking price. Be aware that it’s often hard to get a grab or taxi home at night / closing from here.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 December 2023

We gave up going through whole Petaling street and found restaurant instead. If you would like to buy some copies then negotiate hard.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 February 2024

- TedistravellingQueensland, Australia182 contributionsUnderwhelming overall...We visited the much-hyped Petaling street markets in February 2024. Overall, we found this to be quite average and to be honest - disappointing. Prices are nothing special when compared to even somewhere like Sungei Wang Plaza. An definitely not cheaper than Vietnam or even Thailand. Worth a visit to make your own opinion but we weren't overwhelmed.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2024
- Al CatrankTangerang, Indonesia770 contributionsGood FoodThere is a lot of good food with very fair price. The night market sell made in china fake brand such as Gucci LV etc but be carefull with the price. You must bargain the price almost 40-50% from opening price. Better you check the price in online shop before you bargain so you have a figure price.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 April 2024
- sabina_23London, United Kingdom218 contributionsHaggle the priceVery busy and cramped market at times can get very hot, lots of fake bags and watches sunglasses to buy, haggle there try there luck and do come down eventually nearly to half price of what originally they say. Lots of food places inside and main street outside sellers not to pushy, but do keep asking you to come in there stall. Taxis is easily available outside on main street, would visit again just for the food and atmosphereVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 May 2024
- fire-tower3,099 contributionsDo visit this place if you have time to soak in the atmosphereWe visited Petaling Street Chinatown on a Saturday afternoon. It was not as crowded as expected. The usual imitation goods were on sale and these brands included Nike, Adidas, Prada, Christian Dior, YSL, etc. prices tend to drop when you start walking away, sometimes significantly. There are also nice street food as well as the famed soya bean and mata kuching drinks stalls. Do visit this place if you have time to soak in the atmosphere.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 May 2024

For parking, I read somewhere they say it's safer to park at Ancasa Hotel, be warned the parking at Ancasa is bloody expensive hourly rate of RM7, subsequent hour cheaper. I would propose that you park at UTC building which is just a few metres further.
I visited Petaling Street a VERY LONG TIME ago then i never came back. I dislike the vibe the place gives me. The vendors are pushy/creepy, the moment you touch something they would not leave you alone.
After many years later I went again because my friend wants to check it out.
It's less gangstery but the vendors are still irritating, one asking if you want bags, one asking if you want perfume, one asking if you want tattoo but you wouldn't want to get tattoo done from someone like that (unprofessional looking in tshirt, shorts, slippers). Don't get me wrong not making fun of people in shorts/t-shirt/slippers but the vibe/the feel/the look, you just won't want to do something permanent as a tattoo. Unless he has extremely good reviews then by all means.
There's a signboard that says not allowed to sell pirated goods but the whole street is filled with pirated goods from branded bags to watch to perfumes. I find the sign funny.
I saw a long queue at Kim's Soya Bean so I went for lunch first and came back later, the queue was much shorter so i quickly stand in line.
Mmm the soya to me is okayyy la not fantastic, I still very much prefer the uncle truck near my house but unfortunately that uncle has retired :(
Anyways if you really want to buy some pirated items cheap come here but only enter the shop if you really want to buy. They will not leave you alone until you buy something, you will still hear them calling from behind as you walk out. Haggle the price down, don't buy at first price, and walk away if you don't like the price, the moment you walk away they will counter a better price. If you really don't want to buy just say a price that is ridiculously low that even they won't want to sell to you and leave you alone. By any miracle if they do agree, well you can thank me ;)

This is a proper blue colour working class authentic Chinatown. In fact this is as close as you can get to the real thing outside China. It has all the the required features that make these towns tick. Colourful, vibrant, lively, busy, noisy, crowded, exotic smells, herbs and medicine shops, temples, dragons, sculptures, restaurants, bars, street food stalls, cheap hotels, dirty narrow back allies and all kind of branded clothings/accessories that you can never afford to buy otherwise from top fashion designers at original price.
The main street market Jalan Petaling is pedestrian only and declared as heritage site. After the facelift and nip tuck, they covered it completely with the roof to keep it from sun as well as thunderous monsoon rain. They've alo installed welcome arches on each side of the street to make it exclusive. The whole neighbourhood is far from glamorous, classy high end areas of the city but definitely a saving grace for low budget traveller like me.

I've visited Petaling Street Market 3 times now over the last 2 - 3 years. As a tourist, it's an awesome place to shop in fact if you're after clothing (especially T Shirts/hoodies/hats), belts, hand bags, Watches, wallets, lighters, market type food etc, this is the place to go.They do sell a lot of copy goods but some are really good and you'll have trouble telling it apart from the real thing (Caveat emptor "Let the buyer beware"). There are well over 100 different vendors there. They take credit cards, EFTPOS and of course, cash.
Most items seem pretty good and you can really beat the price down from what they initially offer it at e.g. a starting price of MYR900 can come down to MYR450. You start off with a real low counter offer and hold your guns. You even have to start to walk away and they'll often buckle on their price. It's when they don't chase after you that you know the price is too low for them to make anything.

This is one of the places I always visit whenever I’m in the city mainly for the great food and street vibe. Most of the food here is Chinese and my favourite kind of food. There’s street food, restaurant style food and since my last visit some of the eateries are quite trendy too. The street stalls are still here selling their questionable wares, but I guess for some people that’s part of the charm.
If you love Chinese food, street food or just good food, Petaling Street is the one place you should visit in Kuala Lumpur.

If you dont have an acute eye for imitation goods, and are not too scrupulous about getting the real stuff at high prices, then this is the place to come to get what you cannot afford, at super duper cheap prices.
Bargaining and haggling is a must, unless you are so rich and dont mind giving your ringgit away at sellers' opening price. Always slash a good 30-40% and bargain to your best deal.
But as a respect too, don't ask for the price (or bargain) if you have no intention of buying. Most buyers will not force you to purchase, but it also means to be fair to them too!
This is also an excellent place for a full body massage. Only RM100 for 1.5h oil massage. You cannot get this kind of price anywhere else (not even Bukit Bintang).
This is a place which you have to visit. Lots of food options too.
Enjoy!

This used to be one of the cheapest fake markets out there now it's quite pricey. Knock-offs go for 20myr now compared to 2 for 20 4 years ago. Quality is subpar, wouldn't recommend shopping here luggage bags although cheap have slight defects

A slightly better atmosphere than some other street markets that you might find in SE Asia. The variety is ok, but after spending some time there it does feel like you're walking past the same stalls over and over again. You can haggle your way to lower prices here, but you aren't buying many genuine products here anyway. Maybe worth a short visit.

Definitely worth a visit if you are after fake designer gear but prepare to deal with all the BS that comes with it, the market is part of Chinatown but most of the stall owners are from Bangladesh or India, the amount of lies they tell are comical.
Was chasing some fake Nikes, guy went to get my size, was too small and came back 3 times with the same size and tried to tell me it was bigger or that they will stretch in length once worn (no they don't) then you get," this one is better quality", they are the same.
Also, don't bother trying to exchange anything, bought 5 pairs of shoes from one place, was supposed to be all the same size but when we got back, noticed that 2 of them were a lot smaller, went back to exchange sizes but shop owner was really rude and aggressive towards my partner and friend, they treat women a lot different to men here.
Also, prepare to haggle on price, never accept the first price given, my female friend wanted a handbag, guy said 350 ringgits but I got him down to 120, once again, women are treated differently to men.
Just work out what you actually want to pay for something, if they don't agree just move on to the next one, most of the time you will get the price you want and a lot of the stalls sell the same gear.
The most fair stalls are the chinese run stalls, these are mostly clothing stalls and pricing is already pretty fair so no need to haggle too much.
All in all, the stall owners are not as aggressive as some other countries, just don't fall for their BS!
Worth a look, but be prepared to barter!
