Sara is a great teacher and chef. She shares so much of her knowledge of Malaysian cooking during the class. Then she sent a follow-up email after the class with notes on cooking and shopping tips so we could focus on cooking while we were in the class. We also got a recipe booklet to take home.
We made several dishes but the nasi lemak and the fried chicken were my favorites. I am so happy to have those recipes.

My teenage daughter and I had a market tour, followed by breakfast, a tour through the garden with all the spices, then cooked lunch and enjoyed the great food.
We loved the whole experience and this was certainly one of the highlights of our trip. To also meet her mom and see a private house added to the unique experience.
Sara was wonderful - she explained everything very well, made sure we knew what we were doing and always made sure to include my daughter. Her recipe booklet is made with a lot of love and thoughts of how we can replicate it at home.
We cooked Lasi Nemak (which we wrapped into a banana leaf) with fried chicken, had fun doing the "pulled tea" and the ondeh-ondeh dessert as well as a bean salad. We had Nasi Lemak with fried chicken afterwards in a restaurant and instantly recognized that they had used less coconut milk and less spices, the chicken was just a normal fried chicken and missed the different spices. Sara's recipe definitely was much tastier!!!
We can only recommend this cooking class!!!

I can not find the contact information so I am going to write it here. Why do you have to wait to decline one week after I booked ? You know time is very vulnerable when traveling in limited times. I was kind of excited to participate in this tour. Very sad. That's life maybe.

Hello. I am on maternity leave and did not have time to check my email as I am caring for my new baby full time. That is the reason for the delay in responding to you.
But I'm sure you had a great time in Kuala Lumpur anyway as there are plenty of other food related activities you could do.
*Additional notes to other traveler (5/9/2023)* A traveler read about this review and contacted me about ‘cancelling a class’. To make it clear, I did not cancel a class. Fearless19255301713 had requested for a class and I declined (a week later). I do not have instant booking set on Tripadvisor. Once you request for a class, I can decline it or accept it. I have never canceled a class I accepted in my history of teaching.
Hope this clear the air!

I stumbled upon Sara's cooking class online and decided to book it as a surprise for my partner. Absolutely loved it and made it such a memorable trip for us. It's perfect for any foodie as it involves visiting the market, gardening, cooking AND eating! It's also wholesome and such a family affair, with Sara's mom and sister being a part of the experience and welcoming us into their family home.
We cooked a 4-course meal: four-angled beans salad, ayam goreng, nasi lemak (even made our own sambal!) and ondeh-ondeh. All so delicious! Sara made it fun and easy to follow, even printed out recipe books for us to take home.
I told my family about it afterwards, and even encouraged my brother and his young family to check it out. I can imagine my little nephew enjoying the different elements of the tour and getting his hands dirty with the ayam goreng.
It's a great place to start for your time away in Kuala Lumpur, as it also helps you appreciate the local food you eat and the delicacies you see in the markets afterwards.
You will love every moment of this class. Book it. :)

The cooking class was overwhelming. Sara and her mother are very nice and know a lot about traditional vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices. The market tour is a must. We tried so many different meals and treats for breakfast.
The cooking part itself was interesting from cutting spices in the garden to folding banana leafs, no detail was missed. We made everything by ourselves, Sara was giving instructions or help, so you learned very much that way. Our self cooked Nasi Lemak, bean salad and onde onde was awesome! And we got a booklet with all receipts as well!
If we wouldn't have made this cooking class, we didn't only missed a good cooking experience but a also missed knowledge about Malaysian tradition, too.

We were there to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday and had an absolutely fabulous time cooking with Sara! As a Singaporean, this is a familiar cuisine, but the cooking tips, interaction, and connections that we built with Sara (and her mom) were priceless. The experience of cooking in a home, as a family, was unforgettable. The entire family had a blast! My two boys (10 and 7) said "This is the best Satay we've ever had!" - these two foodies have had tons of Satay so they totally know what the are talking about!

We were attracted to this expereinces because of its home style, Sara's Malaysian book cook series and a chance to see her organic home garden. We started our day arriving in one of the KL suburbs outside a delightful local home on a very typical Cheras street. We were really excited when we arrived because it felt so lovely to be going to a family home to learn about Malaysian cooking.
My husband, myself and my two children (12 and 8 years) where greeted by Sara's Mum and Sara who were both ready to hit the local market with us. The local market tour included an amazing visit to a small backyard coconut milk producer, a large morning market and a tour through some other local shops around the market which we have visited again just recently. We were fascinated by the joss products shop which included cars, shoes and gold bars to be used as offerings to past family members. We have been to shops like this before but this one was really impressive and interesting. Sara explained many parts of the market, the produce and what is fresh. She is a wealth of local knowledge. You could tell both Sara and her Mum were passionate and proud of their culture.
Home for breakfast (my children are going to make the cool 'tea' again) and to start cooking......we really did cook from scatch 5 Malaysian dishes using Sara's lovely garden. We did Chicken rendang, nasi lemak (best we have had in our many visits and living in KL), 4 Angled bean salad, onde-onde and teh tarik.
Sara was highly organised and laid out everything we needed. She shared her cooking knowledge and love. The others reviews tell it all beautifully but what did set this apart from other cooking classes for us was........
1. It's very local and very true to Malaysia. You get to see a warm and inviting Malaysian home with a delightful family going about their business. Her mum is a wonder and is part of the overall experience. She had a great story about her banana tree (we all loved it) and we got to use her grandmothers 60 year old mortal and pestle. Very special.
2. You could see Sara really wanted to give us an amazing experience to show off Malaysian products and cooking styles. It wasn't just a job.
3. Sara worked beuatifully with our two children. One very shy and one full of energy. She respected both personalities and kept them both engaged.
4. Her garden is a big part of the experience that sets it apart. We learnt, smelt and tasted all different kinds of leafy greens, herbs etc.
5. Sara and her Mum gave me confidence to shop in the morning markets every week.
6. You cook everything from scratch nothing is chopped or mixed so you really get the full experience.
I'm hoping to go again as people visit from us from OS.
Thank you Sara and family we walked away with a new insight into Malaysia and its food.

It was such a pleasure to visit Ms. Sara's kitchen and garden. We thoroughly enjoyed the cooking class and the wider experience.
We cooked Hokkien Mee, Chicken Rendang and Fish Curry. We started with picking some of the ingredients from the vegetable garden and then moved into the kitchen. Both of us were pleassantly surprised with the taste of our own efforts!
The class was extremely well-prepared. All utensils were ready and there was an excellent cookbook to help guide us. Ms. Sara was very accommodating with our dietary needs (one of us doesn't eat meat).
Absolutely recommended!

I learned how to cook Hainanese Chicken Rice woohoo! with the beautiful Chef Sara. She is kind and friendly and also shared some knowledge on different varieties of special herbs in her garden. I am definitely saving some cash from now onwards coz cooking is less expensive than eating at restaurants. And of course home cooked food simply tastes better and you're in control of the ingredients. I love the calamansi juice too. Can’t wait to cook what I’ve learned at home to share with my family & friends. Thank you Sara & see you soon.

My daughter is an avid cook, so we celebrated her birthday with a family vegetarian cooking class with Sara, preparing and cooking (and eating!) nasi lemak, vegetarian rendang, cabbage with turmeric, ondeh-ondeh and teh tarik. The four of us (parents, and kids aged 13 and 14) all enjoyed the very interactive class, as well as learning more about Malasyian cuisine and culture. I am already planning to bring family and friends here when they visit.
The morning started with a light breakfast of delicious blue-coloured tea (made from plants from the garden) and a range of local roti - plus some very thoughtful kuih muih as a birthday cake for my daughter. We then had a fascinating tour of Sara’s organic herb garden, smelling and tasting different leaves, and cutting some fresh to be used in our cooking. We were each given a recipe booklet, though Sara talked through everything, so they were more for future reference, rather than use on the day. Sara ensured that we were all involved in preparing and cooking each of the dishes, and discussed cooking tips and recommendations on where to find particular ingredients afterwards. Monkey head mushrooms are the way to go! After cooking all the delicious dishes, we sat down to eat, and Sara (and her mother) joined us to chat about Malaysian cooking, culture and life!
Covid protocols were reassuring, with us all taking tests beforehand, and then using masks and distancing throughout.
Would highly recommend.
