its my first day wandering the city so came across any number of places. The walkway and view of the historic buildings like the court building is just beautiful. This area of KL is simply gorgeous and must be seen.

This building is beautiful and kept up nicely. I love the architecture and moor influences. You can literally walk around the entire building and admire it. I'm not sure if they do yours anymore. Its must see if you're in KL!

The Former or Old High Court Building is one of the many heritage buildings that you can find in the Merdeka Square area in KL. It is located near the to the City Theatre-Panggung Bandaraya building which is actually the Sultan Abdul Samad building in front of Dataran Merdeka. The Gombak River runs nearby and this Old High Court Building was designed by A.B. Hubback, the British architect who designed most of the heritage buildings in Malaysia with Moorish (Mughul) inspired architecture. It was started its construction in 1912 and completed in 1915. Due to the major fire in 1992, the building had to be rebuilt.
The High Courts in Malaysia are the third-highest courts in the hierarchy of courts, after the Federal Court and the Court of Appeal. The Court in Malaya has its principal registry in Kuala Lumpur, with other registries to be found in all states in peninsular Malaysia.
It is painted with white colour and it has bronze dooms at the top. A distinctive feature of the High Court Building are the towers topped with cupolas with decorative buttresses at the bases. The towers were originally dining chambers with private tiffin rooms. it first housed the High Court and Supreme Court.
Few years ago, there was a plan to convert this building into a gallery but now it seems that the plan has been abandoned. If you wish to come to Sri Lanka, I (top-10 contributor) can help you if you inform me through the message box, found in the pop up got by clicking my profile photo or my name in this review.
They shifted the high court building to the new one in Jalan Duta. When they moved out, it was occupied by the Sessions and Magistrates Court but it is still referred to as the High Court Building until today. It has since been taken over by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The Old High Court Building is another striking building designed by A.B. Hubback in the 1900s. This one has interesting black domes and fine colonnades.

Is is located next to the City Theatre-Panggung Bandaraya building and has a distinctive white color. Few years ago, there was a plan to convert this building into a gallery but now it seems that the plan has been canceled or put on hold. The Former/ Old High Court Building looks more gorgeous at night and perfect for a photography.

Come here to see and take the photo of the old colonial building - the very few left over in Malaysia. If night lights up, nice too.
