Although the shops are generally overrated without much variety, there are heaps of small cafes and restaurants that make it worth a visit. It's a shady area at night though, so probably not the best place to stay as a family.

Literally "America-villagie", this is a downtown word close to the south center of the city (Minami/Umeda/Dotonbori), where youngsters used to hang out particularly in the Eighties. That was the time when America, Hollywood and whatever US-like was regarded as to be, strong, fashionable and generally...More

While most travellers head straight to Dotonbori to share cheeks with the famous Glico man, one should also make a trip to its young and hip neighbor 'America Mura'. Located a good kilometer away from Dotonbori, these streets are filled with youths and foreigners alike....More

Amemura is not the Harajuku of Osaka... it's more reminiscent of Koenji where vintage shops are aplenty. Things don't come cheap here (not charity shop prices if that's what you're thinking) but they are one of a kind and worth your money if you're really...More

Shops in this area are mostly for clothes targeting the younger Japanese buyer(s) who are into Western style fashion. Some cool street art and street lamps are in this area as well.

Great place for shopping for trendy clothes! It's not one street, but more of an area with a collection of colorful shops to explore. Heard locals call it the "harajuku of Osaka"; very appropriate comparison. We visited a little early on a week day so...More
