I had read reviews exrolling the supposed virtues of this castle. My opinion is the exact opposite. The only part that I found impressive were the massive walls which were built in the 17th century using no mortar.

The area surrounding the castle and the fortress around it were beyond gorgeous. The castle as it stands today is a replica, as the original was pillaged many years ago. Inside the castle is a very modern museum. So unless you like museums, don't go...More

I am reading James Clavel's novel "Shogun" for the second time. If you are visiting Osaka Castle it will give you a true feel for it and surrounding political history. The novel is fiction as far as characters but the book follows actual history of...More

It's a beautiful castle, it has a good view of the city from its eighth floor. The cover charge is not too expensive, but if it's too crowded I would recommend entering the castle it self on a different occasion, it's a bit small and...More

Osaka Castle is the jewel in the crown of Osaka. The gardens and moats surrounding are beautiful. The castle itself was very busy. After a long cue, the lift to the top was appreciated and views great. Plenty of people made it a touch difficult...More

This was the 1st castle visited while my wife and I were in Japan. To summarize, the castle with the surrounding compound including the park is a extensive place to explore. So take your time to freely walk around and enjoy the splendid view. With...More

My sister enjoys reading about history so she really enjoyed our stay here. We spent half our day in the castle! It's like your usual museum with displays and explanations and such. It has a total of five(?) floors of displays. One floor has a...More

Stroll through the Castle Park gardens before getting to the Castle - from the outside a great iconic look. Inside, the fit out with the historic museum telling the story of the battles over the years and the construction were great. You have the option...More

Castle opens and closes as stated 9-5, i think your find the grounds outside the moat are open 24 hours? main reason being they have venues nearby. The grounds inside the moat are locked down.
