- missjojo2018Sydney, Australia288 contributionsGreat views! We arrived at around 4pm and the queue to collect our tickets to the observatory was short. We were lucky that the sky was clear and the views from the observatory was amazing. We stayed to catch the sunset and it was beautiful. There is also a small exhibition/display on the history of the observatory and Glico. It was overall a great place to visit.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 January 2024
- WorldTravellerSoonCanada375 contributionsFree with Osaka Amazing Pass - Observation deck + slideWe went there on a weekday evening. It was very packed and we had waited for 50 mins to get to counter to get the tickets for the observation deck. Then we had to go to another queue for another 25 mins to another counter to get the ticket for the slider (we need to sign a waiver form). There were only 3 people working at the counters for about 100 people in the queues. The slider lasts about 10 seconds. You are inside a tube and cannot see anything other than hear yourself screaming. The observation deck is relatively small and not too tall. It is better to go there in the evening as you can see the city lights. I probably won't go there if it is not included in the Amazing Pass.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 March 2024
- LVVTakatsuki, Japan63 contributionsOld tower in Osaka with decent view of the cityTsutenkaku is quite an old tower. You have a nice view over Osaka from the top of the tower, but it isn't as impressive as newer and higher towers around Japan. I don't think I would pay to visit a second time.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 8 May 2024
- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsLandmark in ShinsekaiThe original tower was the second tallest structure in Asia when it was completed and the current tower is a cool sight if you have time to go to Shinsekai. At 103 m tall it isn't the tallest observation tower and we decided not to go up during our visit because we had done quite a few observation decks already during our trip to Japan. The cost to go up the tower is 900 yen/person and it is located in the colourful Shinsekai area which is full of colourful lanterns and signs. The tower is also very close to the Tennoji Park & Zoo and we considered the area to be pretty family friendly in the evening. The closest metro is Ebisucho Station on the north side but the Dobutsuen-Mae Station to the south is pretty accessible to the south.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 September 2024

You hear these phrases when you travel frequently. I've heard, people call Buenos Aires the Paris of South America for example.
Tsutenkaku is a new structure, rebuilt after World War II. The original Tsutenkaku was built in 1912, and it shocked the people of that era; with a height of 200 feet. The name, Tsutenkaku, translates into Sky Route Tower. At the time, it was the tallest structure in the East. The locals considered Tsutenkaku the Eiffel Tower of Osaka. But in 1943 a fire broke out in the tower, and it was dismantled to supply steel to the wartime economy. The current Tsutenkaku was erected in 1956. It was designed and built by the architect Tachu Naito, who also coincidentally designed the Tokyo Tower.

Staff were great, friendly and helpful but the tower was a bit of a let down.
The ticket was 900¥ and the top garden observation deck was an additional 300¥.
The 4th floor was horrendous with awful music and stickers on the windows covering the veiw.
The 3rd floor had a Pocky museum which was a little out of place, there was no signage in English or Japanese. It seemed very out of place.
I was very disappointed overall.

There are not many iconic tourist locations in Osaka, so in 3 days we visited all the sights and decided to check out this observation point. We stood in line for about 20 minutes, and for about $17 for two we went up to the observation deck. There are two of them, one open (with a mesh), the other closed (behind glass). There’s nothing to do indoors, it’s not interesting. It was quite interesting to look at the evening city outdoors. Of course, this is not even the Sky tree in Tokyo, and certainly not the Burj Khalifa, but you can take a look...

Tsutenkaku is a famous Osaka landmark. If you come to Osaka, it's worth climbing it at least once. It's a little far from the center of Osaka, but you can easily get there by taking the Midosuji Line. It's fun to walk through the alleys, which are typical of Osaka. However, the inside is narrow, so on some days it can be crowded to go up. There are new attractions, but they are expensive, so I didn't ride them. Now it's just a low building. They're good at selling things, trying to get you to take photos with them as souvenirs.

I suspect by modern standards the tower is not high enough, glitzy enough, not extreme. There is no glass floor or really scary experience but for someone a bit nervous of heights this place is great. It’s plenty high enough for me and has great views over the city. The experience from going up in the lift to the viewing floors is rather kitsch but good fun. There is an option to descend a few floors on big slide if you fancy it. I would have done but the queue was rather long.
On the way out there is an good exhibition about the history of the tower and surrounding district including some interesting archive film footage.

My first time at Tsutenkaku 🗼
There were a lot of foreign visitors (mostly 🇰🇷), and only about 10% were Japanese.
There are only a few elevators in the building, so there are waiting times to go up and down.
Ticket prices vary depending on which floor you want to go to.
The view is as shown in the image.

If you come to Osaka, you have to go to Tsutenkaku.
The special outdoor observation deck is 300 yen for adults and cash only.
It was 200 yen for junior high school students. It feels quite scary.
The weather wasn't good on the day, so we couldn't see a beautiful view, but you can get a panoramic view of Osaka's cityscape.
There's Billiken, and Tsutenkaku seems to have pretty much anything you want.
There are also interesting souvenir shops selling things, so I think it's a place to enjoy Osaka.

The tower is beautiful, the atmosphere of the neighborhood is crazy. You can climb to the top of the tower to have an incredible view of the city and learn the history of the emblematic characters that you see everywhere in the district. Very 80s atmosphere. Always pleasant welcome. It is possible to go down a slide (I have not tested the slide).

This area was filled with streets of shops and restaurants. Lots of Billiken replicas around. Apparently you rub his feet and make a wish. The tower houses the famous god Billiken. He is the god of things as they ought to be. the views from the top level of the tower are worth the line up. You can see the zoo below and Osaka castle in the distance amongst the modern high rises. We stopped in the tower for a drink on making our descent. Worth the visit to see how big Osaka really is. Not sure of entry cost as family paid for it. You had to enter by going down to basement. You can buy gifts and they had a huge assortment of machines that you put small amount of coin in and get a toy which is labeled on the outside. Was fun.
