Big shopping area in JR Nagano station. Lots of window shopping available and many things to buy as well.

From fashion to cookware to health and beauty to household items, there’s something to suit everyone. Oh! And not forgetting the food items and souvenirs b

We used this place for refreshment a couple times during our visit.

I particular liked the Sake Bar in the middle of the shop where you could find sake-flavour and soy sauce ice-cream. They tasted great.

This is a cool spot to pick up souvenirs on your trip through Nagano. A couple of shops have a great selection of Saki and local foods. It also has a decent sized specialty grocery store and a number of coffee shops. Since it's attached to the train station it's super convenient to grab things on your way out or on your way in. Prices seem fairly reasonable and the place always seems to be busy.

The bar in Midori advertises local nama (draft) cidre at ¥660 a glass, which is already expensive but the glass shown in the advert was not the one in which the drink arrived. Half the size for the same price. When I complained the manager tried to tell me they were the same size. Complete rip-off and what made it worse was that the Japanese salarymen drinking close by had full glasses of the same size used in the advertising photo. Don't bother using especially as there better bars nearby as I discovered later.

There were plenty of souvenirs to buy on the first floor. Restaurants are on the upper floor. However it took a long waiting time to get a table (Not sure if it's because of new year time).

There's were other shops and boutiques too but I didn't spend time walking around.

The food court is full of yummy food. Don’t settle for one place. Graze and eat a little from each. Great place to spend and hour or two.

A department store with Tokyu Hands! Lots of departments, restaurants and takeaway stalls. The 2nd floor includes a sake/wine bar with pickles and other bar food. They have lots of gift items and Yamato Transport to send them to your hotel or home.

Here there is space to look around without crowds and music. I found myself able to gaze upon items and carefully examine them without feeling pressure. I did enjoy the Oraho Square food area. Here there is food to consume on the premises and preserved or packaged things to take home.

Train stations are a nice place to start whenever you are traveling in Japan. Nagano train station is no exception. Located right beside the Midori Shopping Mall, there is a eating location called Oraho on the second level of the train station.
My wife and I headed there to take a look and ended up finding a bar that serves sake and all kinds of alcoholic beverages. Oraho also serves up the fried bun known locally as Oyaki. The stall that we patronised has like 6-7 variations from savoury types to sweet ones. I had the mushroom and my wife the pumpkin. I love the mushroom filling and the skin on the bun was fried just nice - pliable texture and slightly charred on the bottom.
The highlight for us was the sake tasting - the bar serves different types of sakes and they have different sets for you to choose from. Set A is the normal set while Set B is the Daiginjo set which costs more.
The Daiginjo set was definitely better and we settled for that the next day and ended up buying 2 bottles of the ones we liked. One ritual that was rather cute - when you order a particular sake, they put the sake glass in a wooden receptacle and they pour until the sake overflows into the wooden receptacle. The sake was so good that we finished what was in the glass and then poured the remaining in the wooden receptacle into the glass and finished every last drop. Excellent Daiginjo sake.
And when you are done with your drinks, you may go up to the food street where they have restaurants serving soba, curry rice etc. For anything to do with food and drinks, this is the place to be. However, the issue I have with Oraho is that it closed early - at 8pm. I wish they had remained open till 10pm because the bar is probably one of the better ones around.
So if you are ever around the neighbourhood, drop by Oraho and enjoy the food street and the bar as well as the local delicacies they stock.

People very friendly and you can get what you want but certainly nothing special. There are restaurants but not like other area’s in Japan. But if your here than go see it.
