The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Quite a fun experience in Japan for a foreigner, you can learn a lot about Ninjutsu and try out a lot of different tools and weapons that were used by ninja, with explanation and demonstration. You also get to practice with those weapons/tools yourself, which was very enjoyable. Recommended!

I had a great experience in one hour lesson with a group of friendly, professional and smiling instructors. The instructor (she was also very beautiful) teach us from the fingers movements to the basics of few weapons management. A very friendly environment for a great ninja’s lesson!!! A must do in Kyoto

We had a brilliant time learning how to be ninjas. Our 7 year old especially loved the experience, particularly the opportunity to learn how to throw the ninja stars and use the blow dart. It was incredibly educational and definitely a highlight of our trip to Japan.

There were six of us in our group, and we had a blast. The instructor spoke perfect English, and her assistant took amazing pictures of us during the session. I highly recommend visiting; it was a top-notch experience. We took the beginner course.

Additionally, they were thoughtful enough to share a Google Drive folder with all our photos and videos. 10/10

Sensational ! The instructor Mr Tomoe is very respectful and pleasant to listen with a lot of fun.

The ninjutsu is teached to international newbies and it is worth it.

One of the best experience of our Japan journey.

What an awesome experience! We were referred by another family who had gone here on their trip to Kyoto and we’re so happy they did. The kids had the best time and learned a lot.

Our family (2 adults, 2 children aged 10 and 8) loved our instruction on the ways of the Ninja. The Sensei was brilliant and we learned everything from Zen teachings about hand signals and correct breathing, to ninja stealthy movement, sword technique, weaponry, star throwing and blow darts. We wanted to avoid a gimmicky costume affair, and Ninja Dojo is the opposite of that - an authentic, martial-arts style introduction. Highly recommended!

Of all our great experiences on holiday in Japan, this was one of the best.

Our instructor was excellent - informative and also entertaining.

After we got changed into ninja gear, he introduced us to ninja/martial arts/chi philosophy and exercises to prepare for training, then taught us various physical, combat and weapons exercises, techniques, etc while also giving us a thorough insight into multiple ninja techniques (I won't go into too much detail, to avoid any spoilers).

We loved it.

Just an awesome way to spend two hours doing ninja stuff. I went with my ten year old son and he absolutely loved every second - throwing real ninja stars and using all kinds of weapons and learning secret ninja moves.
They send a huge folder of photos and videos after too, which is a great touch.
Would massively recommend
