I wasn't sure we would enjoy the tea ceremony as much as we did. We were jet lagged and worried our boys wouldn't get anything out of it. However, the experience was so peaceful and by the time we drank the tea, we felt completely restored. Camellia is also located in a very unique part of Kyoto...right near Park Hyatt.

Dear LRice68005,
Greetings from Kyoto.
Thank you for taking the time to write a few words about your time in the teahouse. We are so happy that you and your sons enjoyed the experience.
Matcha has an amazing way of reviving both body and mind, and after all these years we too find the calm of tea ceremony has a restorative effect.
We do hope the rest of your trip was a memorable one.
Best wishes from the Camellia team.

This is a great tea ceremony experience! The girl that ran the ceremony was lovely and very informative, plus getting to make your own thin matcha is fun. Also the house is lovely and really adds to the experience, as does the surrounding area which is lovely to walk around and explore. I have done a tea ceremony previously with another company in Kyoto and this one was definitely better so worth spending a little extra money.

Highly recommend attending a Tea Ceremony to learn exactly how the ceremony takes place this present day and many many years ago. We felt very welcomed and a highlight to our trip to Japan. A must visit of anyone to Japan from overseas.

as a family with 3 young children we loved the tea ceremony. It gave good insight in the history and traditions around it and we could give it a go ourselves. It was a bit shorter though than 1 full hour but the 2 ladies hosting us and introducing us to the tea ceremony were very informed, sweet and did a great job.

Dear Marie,
Greetings from Kyoto.
I hope you are keeping well in these difficult times.
It was a real pleasure welcoming your family to the teahouse, and we're so glad you enjoyed your time with is.
Please take care and stay safe.
Best wishes!
***For those reading, I just wanted to mention that we actually have two teahouses in Kyoto, and both teahouses have their own separate Tripadvisor pages. Each teahouse offers a slightly different experience. Camellia Flower's tea ceremonies are actually 45 minutes long, in contrast to Camellia Garden's 1 hour. Apologies to any guests who thought the Camellia Flower tea ceremonies ran to 1 hour.***

We had a fantastic time dressing in kimonos and participating in the tea ceremony. Our host spoke perfect English and was extremely knowledgeable. My family of boys surprised me and really enjoyed this experience. This was a great way to start our trip in Japan!!

Dear ocdana,
Wishing you a Happy New Year!
It's fantastic to know that your whole family had fun with us, and we're thrilled we could get your trip off to a good start. More and more of our guests are choosing to dress in Kimono for tea ceremonies, and we can't recommend it enough.
We do hope that you enjoyed the rest of your trip. If you are ever back in Kyoto, be sure to pop in and see us.
Best wishes from the Camellia team.
***For those reading...you only need two hours to enjoy Kimono dressing and tea ceremony, so even if your schedule is tight, there is no need to miss out! Kimono rental is for the entire day, so if you do have more time, you can walk around the local area or enjoy a coffee***

A truly UNIQUE experience. The place expresses profound wisdom and tradition. The ceremony is in English for groups of max 8 people. The guide was exceptional, super professional, empathetic and approachable. He explained every process, every cultural characteristic, every tool very well. He answered all our questions and accompanied us on an emotional and profound experience that we will carry with us forever.

Very welcoming company set in a lovely back alley in Kyoto (though also very easy to find). We were treated very well and had a lovely time finding out about the tea ceremony and experiencing one of our own. English was superb.
A must-do activity for anyone visiting Japan.

Absolutely loved the tea ceremony. The history of the ceremony was clearly explained in English and everyone participated making tea. For one who wants to learn about the culture instead of just watching a performance blindly this is a great event

i tried to reach you over the email provided, but i did not get any reply, i wanted to know if we rent the kimono from your tea house are we allowed to go outside to take pic in the streets outside and walk in the street for 30 min. if not then, is there near by shops to rent the kimono and then come to the ceremony wearing it?
the main point here, it not feasible to rent and change twice in a day so we are trying to wear it taking pic int he street and do the tea ceremony
thanks,

So the Kimono rental is a separate business from the tea house, but they have a relationship with each other and are right around the corner from each other. The tea house links you to the Kimono rental place, but your reservations with them is separate. You get the Kimono all day if you want and can certainly walk all around with them, which I recommend because the whole area is filled with great picture opportunities. I was so sad to give my Kimono back at the end of the day. Also, you can rent it as early as you want before the tea ceremony.

Hi we are planning to visit as family with 4 yrs old is it ok?
And do we need to reserve? Can we have kimono experience with it?
Thanks
Written 6 April 2019
Hello, thank you for your message. Yes we welcome small children to our tea house. However, since we need a quite moment during a tea ceremony demonstration for about 10 minutes, if your child makes noise or moves around, we ask you to wait at the waiting room. We wish your understanding.
Reservation is strongly recommended especially spring and holiday seasons. You can make a booking online. Please check our website. We put information for a rental kimono plan too.
We look forward to seeing you!

Owner of Camellia Tea Ceremony
Written 10 February 2017
Hello
We are a family of 5 adults visiting Japan in September. Would it be possible to come to a tea ceremony with you Wednesday morning 14th September at about 9.30/10am? Also how much does it cost and how long would our visit last? Would it be just the 5 of us plus host, or would there be other visitors there?
Finally we will have just checked out of our accommodation then, so if necessary, can we bring our luggage and put it to one side while we participate in the tea ceremony?
Best wishes
Crystal & Adrian
