We went because of the flea market that is held on the 25th of each month. The flea market was great and we got some superb deals, especially on used kimonos. But the grounds of the temple were surprisingly impressive considering they aren't on anyone's...More

A beautiful temple with alot to see, you can experience how japanese citizens worship there belief and gods and how everything works. The temple itself was beautiful and i would recommend it to evrybody. It is the most beautiful in the evening!

This is one of the nicest shrines in Kyoto, and though it can be busy, you don't tend to get as many foreign tourists at this site as some of the others, which is something I really like as it helps with my immersion in...More

We went at the end of March, and although there were no cherry blossoms yet, we caught a good glimpse of plenty of plum blossoms that were in full bloom at the end of winter. Tenman-gu is very spacious and easy to walk around, with...More

a lively shrine, with large jingle-type prayer bells that orants pull. Cows are associated with this scholar-made-a "kami." Students come here to pray for good exam results. So placid but muscular cows in bronze are scattered about, with their red bibs on shrine holidays. Nearby...More

Premise: I visited the temple during march, when the many plum trees of the temple bloom. The plum blossom was incredibly nice! Less crowded and more "zen" than the cherry blossom, here you won't see people seated, eating & drinking. Mostly older, japanese people come...More

Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto
is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with
its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the
neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a
self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of
the city, it is a district where you can take it at
your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving
and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many
