I went there with my family of 7 people (Parents, siblings and kids). It's way below my expectation, 100x POORER than Kuromon Market. We knew it would be crowded and it's a grocer market place. Since Japan has been marketing this location as its tourism...More

It closes early in the afternoon but it doesn't really give its maximum splendor early in the morning. If it is not crowded is not really the same.

It is a must to visit this market and it closes at 1800hrs. Please be there 1 or 2 hrs before that to hunt for cheap and tasty food. I tried fresh sashimi and they tasted so fresh and sweet with affordable price. Never ever...More

I'm sure this is a fascinating place and well worth a visit, but I had the misfortune of visiting during the New Year's holiday. The market was packed (an announcement in multiple languages warned of this) to the point that one could only inch forward...More

Walked through the market twice, at night & morning. Love some food eg fresh omelette, udon soup, grilled crab stick. Not the grilled beef skewer or scallop. Many souvenir shops there are good for shopping! Near to Gion Street nearby.

If you have half a day to spare at least, then wander into this market and get lost in the multitude of colours, smells, sounds and sights. Let your feet take you where it pleases.

Spent ages just walking along here, so much food choices! The knife shop is particularly cool! I think we stopped at 3 different places for food snacks lol. Make sure you visit this, we went around 11am which was fine, it was still just as...More

Great to see and taste the flavours of Kyoto. Just go early on a week day if possible to avoid the crowds!

We spent more than an hour walking the long food halls, dodging cars as they crossed various streets. In addition to the unusual fruits and vegetables, seldom if ever seen on the US East coast, the variety of seafood and its complex preparation fascinated me....More

It gets very busy but it's so interesting to come here, especially from England where our markets are very limited now. I loved just looking at the different stalls and seeing what local produce there was. Dried octopus on a stick seemed to be popular,...More

We enjoyed strolling through the market, which wasn’t too congested on a Monday lunchtime. There are lots of signs prohibiting you from eating and walking so we had to either find a spot between stalls to eat, or dip out of the market. It’s the...More

Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find
themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited
by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of
fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are
piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed
outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub
for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes.

The Nishiki market does not open until about 10am. Good to get there early before the crowds and before it gets too hot. There are long queues where the food is popular. Check the website for open days because the fish... More
