Sanzen-in Temple is about 50 minutes by car out of Kyoto. As a result, it is not that crowded. The temple grounds are very nice with beautiful gardens that has moss covered ground. There is a good noodle shop in front if you are hungry....More

I went in Winter and vowed I would return to see the Autumn foliage and it didn't disappoint. It's a little bit further out so you can enjoy the gardens without the throngs of tourists and their selfie sticks.
