Neighbourhood: Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.

This was such an amazing show and I would recommend to anyone planning a visit to the Kyoto area. Our kids are 8,6,4, and 1 years old and they all loved it! My husband and I laughed and cried as well. The unique characters-each with a different entertaining ability, interesting stage/ sound/light effects, and crowd interaction made it a unique theater experience!

From the moment the theatre lights dimmed and the stage lighting came on, my eyes were drawn to the stage and performers all the way to the very end. The theatre lit up with a visual that I was not expecting and this told me, I was to expect the unexpected. The closing chaotic scene capped off the night with everything for the senses. This show felt like a tiny version of the many Cirque Du Soleil shows I have seen in the last 25 year but I enjoyed the intimacy of this show more due the small venue.
The staff were very friendly and I even got a birthday surprise (definitely try to go on your birthday month) which was very special that added a person touch to my experience. I wish had known about this show earlier and I would recommended to more people before I left Kyoto (ps: I was in Kyoto for 5 weeks and only found out it before I was ready to leave)

Absolutely phenomenal theatre show! My teen was looking up “cool things to do in Kyoto” when we stumbled upon this gem. The theatre is small and intimate but the stage setup was larger than life! There was so much talent on that stage and it was truly an experience like no other. Non-verbal but it spoke in volumes in so many other ways - lights and music, miming, break dancing, magic, juggling… As a happy surprise, we got discounts at the gift shop and a small present cause we went on my daughter’s birthday month. Coming from someone who enjoys Broadway and the likes, I would say book a show! You won’t be disappointed!

A show without words seemed like a perfect theatrical experience for this non-native speaker. And we were right! The performers practicing the arts of mime, magic, juggling and dance were all mesmerizing. Technical aspect of the show was top-notch. This was really a very pleasant find.

A fun, energetic, and fantastic show! The stage and visual effects were astounding and immersive, and the performers immensely talented. We had a fantastic night, this performance is great for all including families and children but also suitable for adults. As it is non-verbal theatre it is also a perfect way to enjoy Japanese theatre as someone who doesn’t speak the language. If you get the chance while in Kyoto, go and see this show!

We really enjoyed the show. The set and technology were excellent. It was easy to follow as a non-japanese speaker (being nonverbal) and entertaining. On our night, we thought the mime and magician were particularly talented performers. It's a very small theater, located on the third floor of a performing arts building. We were impressed with the polished performance and production of the show. They pay attention to small details like the availability of the specific cast you watched on a postcard. We felt very welcome by the reception and theatre staff as well. Would recommend!

We loved the performance at GEAR which we saw on Saturday 13 May. Break dancing, moonwalking, amazing magic and juggling, all in the one show. We didn't realize until after the show that they have so many actors ready to do the 5 parts, so that there are an incredible 4000 combinations they can call upon. Intimate space made it even more appealing. We found out about it just by googling 'live theatre and it was the first thing that popped up. Many thanks to the lovely lady who gave us the seniors discount. It's also within easy walking of Gion, Temarchi etc

Wonderful physical theatre which would entertain all ages. Language is no barrier as there isn’t any. Breakdancing, magic, lighting effects, juggling and many other forms of physical theatre. Very uplifting - Greta for a rainy day as well.

What an outstanding experience! We were blown away by the concept and the show did not disappoint! It was thoughtful, fun, engaging, moving, exciting...the performers were full of personality and portrayed their roles convincingly. It doesn't matter what language you speak - you'll get the message. We loved it!

Before departure, I saw a brief introduction of gear on Xiaohongshu, and I felt that it would be a great experience. Children as young as 7 would definitely like this pantomime full of stage effects, such as breakdancing, doll princesses, magic, juggling, etc. Sure enough, the whole process lasted about 90 minutes, and the children watched it attentively, saying that it was so good, and there were many interactions (buy S seats in the front rows) and funny plots. Five-star recommendation~
