Rainy day

It's a good place to kill time when it's raining or too hot outside. They renovated this place a couple years ago so it doesn't look that bad.

It's an almost all-you-can-find-under-one-roof mall. Especially if Kyoto is your last stop before you leave Japan. The mall is located within ten minutes walk from the Kyoto Station.

It's so strange reviewing a mall in Kyoto (considering how many excellent sites there are to see in this city), but this mall is really far too useful for travelers to miss. I stayed in a hotel across the street from this mall on a recent visit to Kyoto. In addition to a wide variety of shops, this mall also... More

The aeon mall had a few interesting stores. There was a store selling good quality yukatas. A big arcade for gaming. Local and imported clothing brands and such. The people who shop here are mostly Japanese. Not a bad place if you want to spend sometime indoors when the weather is uncomfortable outside.

The mall is a short walking distance from kyoto station (it's across the street). I came looking for souveniers, instead it's a semi-standard mall. There are 4 floors - 1st floor has shops like Zara, a muted-themed "practical" home goods area, and etc. The 2nd and 3rd floors have clothes, shoe and bag shops. I really enjoyed the Happy Ethnic... Okay, it was raining for three days straight when we were in Kyoto. So.. shopping malls are pretty good alternative to keep my kid entertained. Aeon mall has one floor full of arcade and other play area for kids. Pretty fun.

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
