The area
Address
Neighbourhood: City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Journey through Japanese history through the written language and learn about the Kanji characters, its meaning and how some of the characters are characters within a character from a very knowledge calligraphy teacher in Ms. Aya Ito. When the writing portion starts, she will guide the your hand and the “fude” (writing brush) with grace and ease. Then you’ll have fun trying your hand at writing the kanji characters on your own as she provides key pointers. It was fun, interesting and informative. And you’ll get to take your master pieces home! Highly recommend.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! It was truly a pleasure having you in class and guiding you through the rich history of Japanese Kanji characters. I'm thrilled to hear that you found the experience fun, interesting, and informative. Your enthusiasm for learning and mastering the art of calligraphy was evident, and I'm glad you enjoyed trying your hand at writing Kanji characters with the fude. I hope you continue to practice and cherish your masterpieces. Looking forward to seeing you again soon! Aya Sakura

An excellent experience. My wife sprained her ankle just before going. They helped take care of her and gave an outstanding tea ceremony experience. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic tea sermoni! This was the part of our honeymoon that I thought was the nicest and most memorable part of our entire trip.

The host was so nice, and pleasant. We were so appreciative that we were allowed to enter her home to be part of a traditional tea ceremony

Loved this private ceremony for just myself and my 19 year old daughter. This tea master is licensed and was able to provide information about the training and school she attended to learn and practice tea ceremony. The ceremony was in Aya’s home. She said she began learning at the age of 13 and is still performing the tea ceremony more than 40 years later.

Great experience! Aya thoroughly walked us through the tea ceremony. She was a wonderful host, explaining all the secrets of this ancient tradition and sharing a lot of insights about Japanese culture.
She also gave us some good recommendations for restaurants and tea shops!
