Japan plays important roles in steam locomotive industry in the world. Umekoji preserve various steam locomotives, from the commercial to imperial locomotives and they kept well. This museum will be swarmed by children in the weekend, so this would be a good place for kids...More

Great experiences being surrounding will all locomotives in real! Especially so closed to the Steam Train. Its not only so attractive to children but so all adults. Seeing those engineers are still working hard to get it fixed, amazing! Riding on it for a round,...More

I work for the railroad back home and thought it would be interesting to see some of the history of Japanese railroading. The working steam engines at this museum are very impressive, the roundhouse and facilities are equally interesting. Certainly worth stopping by if you...More

Good array of Locos and carriages from the various railway eras of Japan. Enough things to see in the displays inside and outside. However, the train ride was probably THE SHORTEST STEAM TRAIN RIDE on earth....went about 500 metres.... That part was a total rort!!.

I am not sure if this museum appeals to tourists from other countries. I really felt the vibration that comes from the historical effort of Japanese nation and people. The museum will be closed temporarily until next spring soon. So you should go there before...More
