Hosenin is right next to the Sanzen-in temple. It has 2 beautiful garden scene. One is an amazing 700 year old pine tree which is the oldest tree in Kyoto. The other is a beautiful graden scene that looks like a painting. Definintely worth a visit.

Didn't have high hopes or lots more "temple energy" left when we arrived here but the temple is definitely worth a visit! The garden is simply peaceful and majestic. Really nice. The temple is nice but what makes it amazing is the tea break in front of a fabulous tree. Nice place to relax and reflect. Definitely worth the visit!!!

This temple is one of my favorites. It's almost always quiet and does not have too many people inside. Plus if you visit Kyoto in summer, this temple is exactly what you need to escape the heat. Despite the fact that I've been here many times, I still find new amazing parts of landscape to enjoy. Simply amazing experience. Plus... More

The pine tree is the only attraction here. We prefer sanzenin as well as jikko-in. Nothing much as it's kind of crowded with people. Jikko-in is beautiful

This is a really nice temple area but to be honest by the time we reached here we had seen so many they all started to become a blur and we were fully temple and shrine out where each one starts to look like the last - it was one of the nicer ones so we would make the effort... More

If you appreciate beautifully designed, contemplative spaces, you will probably want to visit Hosen in. I loved it. There are several beautiful gardens. The dry strolling garden is marvelous. It's a short stroll, but intensely beautiful. There's a pond garden that can be seen from several perspectives. The admission includes tea and a Japanese sweet. In the temple tatami room,... More

We arranged a car and driver to see Hosenin, Shorinin, Jikkoin, Sanzenin, and the area all in the same visit. The driver spoke English and served as a guide as well. It was very worthwhile to have a guide to visit all of these temples. The area is quiet and beautiful and the temples and their history are interesting. We... More

during our visit i focused on tiny springwater-related scenes. there were a few, very delicate. drank mocha when enjoying the courtyard beauty. Kyoto's mountains boast nice springwater, therefore nice tea and mocha.

Quite hard to find, in the shadow of Sanzen-in. One of the five "bloody" temples, where the ceiling features bloodstained tiles from the Fushimi Castle siege. Inside, tea and sweets are served, in view of the 700-year-old pine in the garden.

Wear nice socks, and 'fresh' shoes, as you will be taking them off, and your feet will be on display. :) One of my favourite temples in Kyoto. Probably because.. it's almost not in Kyoto. It's not completely quiet, at least the two times I've been (for a special spring light up and a regular mid-day outing), but I love... More
