This small alley is beautiful, hidden but amazing. You can sense how the traditional and old Kyoto was. It’s a must see place in Gion.

An absolutely beautiful location. A fine example of old Japan with very narrow brick and cobble streets. The old wooden building walls. What a step back in time. Sadly no pictures are allowed by the owners of the homes and business. Very much worth the...More

Beautiful old alley ways, a snapshot of old Gion/Kyoto. However, no snapshots allowed. Worth a little detour though

Blink and you’ll miss the entrance to Ishibei-koji Lane, Kyoto’s most atmospheric pedestrian-only walkway. Ishibei-koji Lane is completely preserved as important historical buildings, today hosting ryokans, restaurants and even homes. Walking the back lanes of Kyoto can certainly transport you back in time and is...More

Very quaint, short cobblestoned alley with preserved traditional wooden and stone houses on both sides that house very private bars and restaurants. Nice to walk in the evening, and a pleasant shortcut between Kodai-ji and Gion.

The alley is quite hidden and can be easily missed out. We decided to turn back to Nene-no-michi for this alley because it is well preserved as if it was still in the ancient Kyoto. There is nothing much to see in this alley as...More

This area is a relatively well-preserved area of older Kyoto, giving you a taste of what the city might have been like in days long past. It may look intimidatingly far from Gion, but it's actually just a short walk away, and makes for a...More

Really cool place to spend an afternoon eating and shopping. Each shop offers something different and there seemed to be something for everyone. Definitely worth a visit.
