Neighbourhood: Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.

Sadly we lost our flyer with the QR code with the recipe in the airport on the way home. So if there is any way we could get a link to the recipe from the staff or a fellow attendee that would be amazing. This place is simply fantastic. Staff is super friendly and makes the 90 minutes of making your own ramen super untertaining. Instructions are clear and easy to follow, even for our 9 years old... and the food delicious to eat!

Our family of four took this class and had a lot of fun. Located near Tofukuji Temple Southeast of the JR Kyoto Station. (They give good directions when you make a reservation.) The Boss was super friendly and gave us some good tips on cool off-the-beaten-path places to visit in Kyoto. The ramen also turned out to be one of the better meals we had in Japan. English is ok. Highly recommended!

We had a great time at the course - our instructor was Mae who was fantastic - friendly and great at explaining things to us as we stepped through the full Ramen process.
The real test of a cooking course is leaving feeling like you could actually attempt it at home - and we totally left feeling that way.
The end result was delicious - a really laid back fun experience - props to both Mae and Reo who were great!

The ramen factory teaches you how to make authentic ramen in a fun way. The staff were great and their English decent. The instructions were clear cut as you make your own noodles from scratch, prepare some chicken, season the broth, cook the noodles, garnish the bowl, and of course enjoy your own handiwork. Fun way to enjoy an hour and get a meal. Easy access from Tofukuji station (JR Nara and Keihan lines). Really enjoyable.

The staff were very friendly. The food was delicious. The amount was more than enough and the price was reasonable. All the food was halal. They also have a cooking class which looked interesting but I did not try. I totally recommend the place.

I want to say that for most people this is probably a really fun experience. For me, since I am very passionate about cooking, this wasn’t a good fit. Also, the value of the class was low. I’ve done multiple tours and programs in Japan and this was $110 for one hour in a group session.
What I liked: the instructors were friendly and engaging. Making my own noodles.
What I wasn’t thrilled about: the broth was pre made and in my opinion the most important part of ramen. I didn’t find the broth to my liking and it truly impacted the end result. About the only thing we did was make the noodles. The rest was really just putting pre prepared stuff together. We were shown a quick video at the start and then given pre measured ingredients to put together, so for me it wasn’t really a learning experience.
I think if the class had been $30-$40 it would have been worthwhile.

Dear, jondabomb
Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent experience with our cooking class. We sincerely apologize that the class did not meet your expectations and for any inconvenience caused.
We appreciate your comments about the friendly and engaging instructors, as well as the opportunity to make your own noodles. However, we understand your disappointment with the pre-made broth and the overall value of the class. Your feedback is invaluable, and we take it seriously.
We are continuously working to improve our services and ensure a more enriching and hands-on learning experience for all participants. Your suggestion regarding the pricing and the importance of making the broth from scratch will be considered as we review our program offerings.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you better in the future.
Sincerely,
Ramen Factory Kyoto

I attended this class on March 7, 2020 and at the end was told that if I scanned the QR code I could access the recipe. However when I scan the code it just takes me to the Trip Advisor page. I even checked the Ramen Factory website and can’t find the recipe. Does anyone know where I can find the recipe used in this class?

Is a reservation necessary, or are most people able to participate as a walk-in? I don’t want to pay 17000 yen making a reservation now in case we miss our appointment time (we plan to do Fushimi-inari beforehand and then head over to ramen when we finish).

We showed up without a reservation and were instantly able to start our ramen making!

Hi Melrose,
Thank you for sending a question to us.
Our broth does NOT have MSG. However, the normal sauces (when you mix with the broth) have MSG.
We also have the NON-MSG sauces; however, please leave a note when you book our course.
Thank you and look forward to seeing you in Ramen Factory Kyoto.

Hi! can I ask if you made the broth by yourself in the ramen factory kyoto? I wonder if t is the kind of "class" where you can make ramen by yourself after?
thanks!
Written 18 August 2018
Thank you for tour message.
Yes, we make the broth in ramen factory Kyoto .
But it takes too much time,
so in the class the broth already has been made.
Instead of making broth, we will sent the recipe to you,
then you could do it at your home.
