It was an easy walk (about 15 mins) from Chinatown. We visited the Starbucks at the park and sat outside Starbucks to enjoy the views while drinking coffee. It was nice walking around the park.

A park with a waterfront view of the port city. Best visited at night with a modern changing light display and social media friendly "Be Kobe" sign; a memorial to the victime of the great Hanshin earthquake. Note: Kobe Port Tower was closed for renovation and will reopen in Spring 2024.

Nice relaxing and refreshing place to go.
Many things in the area for shopping, eating, and just sit and enjoy the water. Great view of the mountains from here too.

Meriken park was so peaceful with lots to see. Ocean was beautiful.
There was a street performer to add charm to the area.
Loved the building, and you can see the mountains so close.

One of our favorite attractions/places in Kobe, especially at night. There is so much going on at this park from beautiful light displays to the Be Kobe sign. You can easily spend a few hours here just walking around. There are many places to sit, relax, and take in the views as well. For photographers, this is a great place to visit and practice long exposure shots or night photography. Highly Recommended!

Whenever you google Kobe, this will be 1 of the first few images that will come up. A nice place by the sea to just relax. There are several cafes and restaurants to enjoy while taking in the view. Best time to visit is in the evening close to sunset so you get day time view, dusk view and night view.

Wide airy space where young and old alike can have a good time away from the usual temples, shopping and crowds in Japan. The harbor view is spectacular especially during the last hours of daylight with the imposing views of the Kobe Port Tower, the Kobe Maritime Museum, etc. The shops lining the edges of the park are worth a visit if you wish to spend some money. There are interesting spots around the park such as the huge sculpture of the Fish Dance by world renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando. There is a small exhibit-marker about the Santa Maria, the flagship of Christopher Columbus recreated in 1992 to mark the 500th anniversary of that epic voyage including a list of the various ports of call around Japan and from Japan to North America. One very informative but often overlooked (as evidenced by little mention in the Internet) feature of this park is the Port of Kobe Earthquake Memorial Park on the east side of the park. It houses pictures of the event, a few metal remnants from the rubble and a 10-minute movie showing the damages and the reconstruction efforts that followed. The movie is enhanced by a 3D map that flashes along with the events depicted in the movie. On one side of the park are actual remnants of the port like sunken concrete slabs, lamp posts, etc all intact as a reminder of the tragic event. One cannot get a better education than visiting this park. Overall, an afternoon spent in Meriken Park is a wonderful experience.
