Street lined with numerous restaurants, hotels and bars, besides being known as Sapporo’s red- light district.
Was snowing quite heavily when we got there and basically we just entered a few shops. Was actually looking for theIce World that is on from 4.2 - 11.2 but unable to locate it.

A lot of Sapporo's attractions are nearby to Susukino so we found ourselves walking through this area quite a bit while on the way to a restaurant or sightseeing. The area is full of shops, bars, restaurants and the red light district. We had some delicious food here and felt safe while in the area but would suggest bundling up in the winter months because it can get quite cold and gusty. We walked through during the day but enjoyed the night more when all the signs are lit up.

The Susukino metro station is roughly in the middle of the area and we feel you have to check it out (or go for one of the restaurants) at least once while in Sapporo. Plan to spend at least an hour in the area or more if you plan on shopping or dining out. Other attractions nearby include Nijo Market, Odori Park, Ramen Alley and Tanukikoji Shopping Street. There are establishments that cater to men and partygoers so be mindful when staying out late.

Speaking of downtown Sapporo: Susukino

Many people come and go late at night.
The city is also one that never sleeps, with many neon lights, ramen shops, drinkers and restaurants.

Many tourists still take pictures of the famous Susukino building's Nikka whisky sign.

Susukino is well known for being Japan's largest entertainment district north of Tokyo. So a visit to the neighborhood immediately seemed essential to us to capture the soul of Sapporo.
Moreover, the days of our stay in the city (from July 31st to August 2nd) fortunately coincided with the date of the Susukino Matsuri: which we attended.
We then enjoyed, along the main north-south street, the vigorous, prolonged performance of Japanese drums, and immediately afterwards the "oiran-donju" (courtesan procession), with men and women in traditional costumes.
Afterwards we enjoyed delicious seafood specialties in one of the many stalls located in the side streets.
Before and after the festival, we admired the glitter of lights of the streets, intersections and shopping arcades, also worthy of Tokyo.
A memory of Susukino's traditional past, as a red-light district, could be recognized by us in the bold female costumes observed both in the streets, and in some parlors that overlooked the streets themselves.
In short, we experienced a rewarding and vibrant neighborhood, as could not be more so.

Susukino has fantastic restaurants and bars but in case someone has a bright idea of trying the lady places out you are in for a great disappointment in terms of service and quality.

Most hostess bars simply offer a blunt "only for Japanese" f-off straight from the door while joints providing more action produce monsters angled up from the deepest seas of Japan to manhandle horny foreigners brought in by pimps with the door shut behind and guarded by a yakuza.

Having moved around across Asia, I would put the lady "entertainment" scene in Susukino safely into the chilling two digit minus degree zone as can be expected of the Sapporo winter - way way way below any realities of the fun drinking spots in the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore etc. where you are really a guest and nobody will tell you to bugger off as long as you behave.

Truly the most unattractive feminine beasts seen in Asia dwell in the Susukino establishments so would not get any hopes or anything else up & going for a horror show if the idea is to try some of the entertainment.

Having seen so many reviews of the place somehow getting glorified being "a red light district", thought it to be only appropriate to provide my 2 cents of this district in comparison and it's rightful place at the very bottom of the list of similiar places seen in Asia. Hideous.

It is a famous entertainment district in the city of Sapporo and is said to never sleep. The population at night is about 80,000. Nikka signs stand out, especially at night. The building is packed with restaurants and other businesses. At night, I was approached by my guest-pulling elder brothers, who made me feel scared, so I tried to get back to the hotel as soon as possible. When I came here during the day in winter, it was a snow festival and it was decorated with ice statues and so on.

I went there during the Sapporo Snow Festival. This is the Susukino site of the festival. It is called "Susukino Ice World" and the main attraction is the ice sculptures. It is lit up at night, so it is very fantastic. If you get cold from looking at the ice sculptures, it is a good idea to warm yourself up with some ramen. Since it was during the festival, I did not see any touts.

Was there for the snow festival. The road name and direction dont seems to be easy to understand accordingly to the map, probably due to a busy cross junction road as we were searching for the famous ramen alley round the corner.

Pretty interesting place, with combination of red light district.

Susukino is very bustling and alive, especially during nights on weekends. Its neon lights coupled with busy streets makes it interesting and intriguing.
Make sure you catch the Iconic Nikka colorful signage, which is similar to the iconic Glico running man in Dotonbori, Osaka.

We strolled along the streets here for dinner. It was before 6pm and we were rejected by three Izakaya. One asked where I was from and when I replied Singapore, he immediately said the place was full even though there were empty tables. What gives?!
