Fantastic place to people watch. See the morning exercising, hoardes of people getting on boats. Go at either end of the day

It was beautiful. Definitely worth to visit. There was a lot of tourists so the best time to visit it is early morning. We took a boat to the little Iceland and really enjoyed our walk there.

This lake is beautiful. Just so romantic and no wonder the Chinese uses it in painting and literatures. Make sure you spend the time here during dusk. You could see the best of both, day and night. Although night time is better with all the...More

It is a busy place, especially during the weekend. Everybody wants to go to the lake and have a walk. Sometimes it is annoying. On the plus side, it is a nice location and a beautiful view, when there is no pollution in the air.

This is a real highlighr of any trip to this region. Make sure you see the gold water buffalo statue and other beautiful art work throughout the park. Lotus flowers in bloom over the summer - beautiful.

Pros: nice lakeside views; clean and green environment, despite the crowd. Cons: the area is huge and not very well served by means of transport (definitely estimate more time in getting from point A to point B).

The park around the lake is huge. Even though there were thousands of people there it didn't feel too crowded. There were very few other non-Asians and at times we felt that we stood out. One man absolutely locked eyes on us to the point...More

The West Lake is one of the top tourist attractions for the Chinese people themselves, meaning it is packed, even in summer - and I imagine even busier in autumn and spring. The heat in summer, and being right on top of a lake you're...More

Beautiful lake and walk around and across the causeway. Amazing at dusk when all the hillside temples start to light up. Many great local restaurants. Also silk shops well regarded. Haggle hard !

Just a crowded place which takes away the tranquility of the area. It's a lake, that's about it. Nothing special.

Certainly, Hangzhou is better. Suzhou is well-known for artificial gardens, but if you visit one, the rest look rather similar. While Hangzhou has more variety in scenery, including but not limited to artificial gardens... More

Yes you can hire a boat. Big tourist boats take you to fairy island (highly recommended). There are also little boats that you can rent out with a man that will steer it for you and take you where you want to go. It's more... More
