The Hefang street is the most famous and the only well-preserved ancient street in Hangzhou. It represents the old story and showcases the folk culture of Hangzhou. The cobbled street is lined with lots of time-honoured stores from which visitors will get a better understanding and experience of ancient Hangzhou and ancient China. One can explore the traditional Chinese Medicine Culture, enjoy the delicate handicrafts, taste the delicious authentic Hangzhou foodstuffs. I like the small lanes and shophouses, very nice and there are so much to see, shop and eat.

Although like other shopping streets, it's a little touristy, it's still worthwhile to visit to indulge in the local culture and lifestyle. Time seemed to pass slowly and you can leisurely walk around, have some finger food over some drinks and then shop again!

But many shops are selling the same or similar things (I trust they are chain stores, same boss but setting up stores with various names at different locations) and so after a while, it's repetitive!

We all love it!

A fascinating street (actually more like 10 if you include the branches) in the “old town”. Hundreds if shops selling edibles, souvenirs. And countless cafes and restaurants. Spent half a day here. Only downside is the wafts of smelly tofu

Hangzhou has so many destinations, so this street creates a nice diversion from the West Lake crowds. The area is an endless maze of cool streets with restaurants and shops that each provide an interesting element of Chinese culture. It’s a great deviation from West Lake.

A cozy and interesting place to visit in Hangzhou, walking around, shopping, or having some local street snacks...

The economy of the Song Dynasty was the early modern world's most prosperous. As one of the largest cities of Song, Hangzhou boasted a lively street life, with markets, shops, restaurants, and houses right on the street.

Hefang Street has been the most flourishing street in the city since ancient time. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Hefang Streen (Qinghefang), with its shops, restaurants, and teahouses was the center of politics, culture and commerce in the city.

Hefang Street has lost many of its craft highlights so it's not the mix of outlets it was in past years. Gone are the leather craft and similar differentiating stores. But if you want local confectionery, costume jewellery trinkets, and all forms of snacks, or dozens of tea leaf and pot variations go around lunch or late afternoon and take the stroll.

Lots of interesting things to see. Once you have done it you have done it. Back streets are interesting. Lots of people very busy. Evening lights can be pretty.

A lovely area to spend a relaxed few hours walking round. A beautiful street, with traditional Chinese buildings and lanterns offers a cultural experience - just make sure you look up! The street has a mixture of shops / restaurants/ stalls for food (and unfortunately the big conglomerates from the West).

We stayed in a hostel in this area and it was a nice looking area worth checking out with some really good restaurants, artwork and cafes mixed in. The shops are repetitive and you will see the same things over and over with some shops having multiple locations in Hefang alone! The closest metro is Ding'An and cars can drive you up to the edge of the Hefang Street area. Highlight of our visit here was seeing a man walking his pet squirrel.
