Breath taking and must see in person.
Very large area to walk and hike or ride cart. Very informative and each area feels truly authentic!

I was truly amazed!

I’ve been living in China for last 6 years and this is the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. It takes almost the whole day, but every second is well-worthy!

The recreated buildings and villages are marvelous and one of the last places you can really see many of them.

The villages are inhabited by minority entertainers and their families and they seem to enjoy performing but you will see it’s their home and you’re intruding around meal times.

The Wa hair dance and the minority Bamboo Stick Dance (I think it’s the Li but I am not sure) were the highlight of the shows.

A large park with 26 separate minority villages with traditional houses and community member performing songs, making local products and other activities. A full day is needed to see all the villages but a half day is also good. It is about 10km to walk to all village. There are options of renting bicycle or pedal car or buggy, but not all spots are easily accessible other than on foot. Important to get a map at the ticket counter and then check the signboard at the entrance for the time of the shows. Mark the times on the map and then work out a suitable route to maximise seeing the shows. There are many souvenir shops at the entrance/exit - but also some items available at the specific villages. Food or tea is available at some villages. Halal food is available at the Hui Village. There is some beautiful wood carving available at the Bulong Village. Take an umbrella with you if there is a chance of rain.

This village was across the street from the Lake View Country Club. After the round we decided to take a look.
It’s quite a large village. It’s a tourist trap but it is interesting. Lots of stores selling various ethnic souvenirs. It displays the living style of some of the many nationalities in proximity of Southern China. I understand there 45 ethnic nationalities. There men and women dressed in their traditional ethnic apparel.
Strongly suggest you take the shuttle around the grounds. It can be substantial walking without the shuttle.
It’s not a compelling experience.

The Yunnan Nationalities Village was way better than I expected. In fact, it is one of the best run, cleanest attractions I have been to in China. My family loved it, and we learned a little about the minority ethnicities in China. I am sure that some of the cultural aspects were hokey and simplified, but nothing was overtly offensive. The food was amazing and cheap. I would have liked for more of the workers’ outfits to match the areas of the park where they were working, because it was hard enough separating the different groups without having other outfits wandering through. We stayed about 5 hours and saw about half of the park. Either plan to go twice or plan ahead to learn about specific groups that interest you the most. If you are in Kunming, you must go. (If you go, take a photos of the big maps like I posted below. The dots show where each ethnicity is, and the free maps do not include this info in English. I recommend entering the East Gate and exiting anywhere.)
