i stumbled across this pagoda by accident - its very beautiful and well preserved - well surely rebuilt

it makes a serene contrast to the surroundings and a nice reminder of olden times

worth it if you are close

Not a very special pagoda and they have a very small park around it. It is a little out of the way and not near much. We went here because it was close to our hostel and it was not too spectacular. There is a smaller pagoda at the other end of the road and a temple as well.

A place that should be visited in the evening, or sundown. We had several time our dinner there. As westeners its like we think it was in ancient China. There is a Jade Museum, but i saw that too late.

There are so many beautiful pagoda's in China and this is not the best if have seen.
We could not go inside so maybe the inside is more interesting.
The one thing I liked is the location. Opposite the other pagoda in the middle of the rest of the modern town buildings.

Went here on our last morning rather than just sitting around the hotel waiting for our transfer to the airport.
This is one of 2 pagodas at either end of a pedestrianised street. You can walk around the outside but you can't go up. Not fantastic but it is nestled in a small garden and relatively quiet given the proximity to the centre.

There are many pagodas in China, which are more beautiful than these two. Would waste my time on it.

This pagoda is one of two at opposite ends of a small shopping/restaurant street in what is now becoming a busy spot of Kunming.

Both pagodas are nestled in small gardens with gated entrances. This is well worth the time and is only a 20 minute walk from the major shopping street Nanjing Lu.

There is a new Paulaner restaurant just down the street ~100 meters from the pagoda on ShuLin Jie if you fancy a cold bier...

Photos of my grandparents home from 1920's in a wide open field surrounded by a privacy wall just 100 yards away from this ancient pagoda highlight how much this provincial town has changed in the last 50 years. Digitizing the thousands of slides my father took as a little boy growing up in Kunming, I see this pagoda in hundreds of shots. My family was privileged to visit the Arnold family's old homestead with Grandpa in 1993 when our boys were little, and actually go into the home which had been turned into a government administrative building. After my father's passing, my younger son and I traveled to Kunming to pay tribute to him by visiting his beloved pagoda and the Dragon's Gate up Xishan mountain. The house is now gone, but this charming ancient pagoda and its twin down the alley remain unchanged. I am transcribing letters of my grandfather written to my grandmother during World War II, where he describes the sustained bombing of Kunming by Japanese planes. Thank goodness that conflict spared these two remarkable historical structures!

A true ancient relic in a city that is tearing down the old things to make way for the new. Theres not much happening here and you can't get in the pagoda, but it is a nice place to see and sit and reflect. See the last bits of old Kunming before they are all gone!
