I went here as part of my trip to Long Men. I'm glad I came. It has an impressive room with hundreds of golden arhats. Worth making part of the trip to Long Men. There's a path through the woods that connects to another temple. I didn't know about it. Make sure to do that too. If I did this area again, I would take the gondola from Dian Chi to Dragon Gate, walk down through Xi Shan Forest to the first temple. Take the forest path down to here. Walk to the bottom of the hill and catch a bus back to town.

Huating Temple is one of the nice temples to visit. The ticket you buy is good for Huating and Taihua Temple. It is a nice walk (the typical Chinese walkway with stone steps/walkway) between those two temples. It leads you along the mountainsides. You can also take the street below, but is no comparison to "walking in the woods". The Huating Temple itself is well kept and worth to visit if you are in Kunming.
Take taxi or bus to Haigeng Park. From there you can take a cable cart/gondula up the mountain to Dragon Gate Visitor center and either walk from there to both temples or take the bus to Huating Temple.

Huating is bigger than Taihua and rebuild, but very nice too. It is just 30 minutes by food fron Taihua.

Many of the crowds seem to pass this temple by. This is a mistake. It is a lovely place to sit and be still for a while.

This is arguably the best temple in Kunming. Highlights:
In the main hall, check out the sculptures of figures bursting out of the walls. Then also check the hall of hundreds of luohans. The background of this temple with the mountain at the back is breathtaking. Not to mention that while hordes of tourists are busy with the dragon's gate, this temple is relatively peaceful and quiet.
You must see this when you are in Kunming!
