We did lots of walking, very nice place, had a good lunch at Rosewood (German food & Pizza). The sales people around the ticket office where a bit annoying but ignore them and do your thing. Very nice boat ride, nice walking in the old town, super nice river views.

Magnificent and spectacular views and fantastic December weather. This is a significant tourist attraction. Many of my colleagues have been here many times, as have I.

I've been living in Xingping town for the past two years and know the local ways of living. For hikers I recommend going up to Laozhai Mountain and Damian Mountain for the best viewpoints of Li River and the mountains. The fishing village is also a hidden gem by Xingping where only taking a boat or trekking takes you there. There're are too many outdoor activities as well as culture around the area and I highly recommend this place for an authentic experience. I opened a hostel here in Xingping called Pomelo Hostel and I welcome everyone here.

Visted via the Li river cruise. I highly recommed it. I wish I would have spent more time here. This is where the landcape pic on the back of the 20rmb is located...

Xingping Town is the area where you can take a cruise to see the famous 20 RMB note. It is definitely worth spending for the opportunity. You will reach an old fishing village there feels like 1980s. The buildings are old, many hanging Chinese flags and there are shops selling beer fish and local snacks, all forgettable poor imitations. You will also see them selling souvenirs, which are again a rip off. The only shop worth spending time are just cafes you can relax and enjoy the slow pace. After that, you will past a long bridge to take a cruise which felt like another planet because you will see many karst caves and its surrounding greenery. It reminds me of an old Chinese tale that Guilin was once submerged many centuries ago which accounts for the karst caves. The cruise ride is highly commercial. There are paid photographers who will take shots when the boat stops and there are even special backdrops like a pole with 2 fishing birds (sadly with their beaks tied which is animal cruelty) that cost 10RMB to hold. The photos will all be charged at 30RMB or more depending on your quantity if you decide to buy. I will think its worth buying as the price is quite affordable by developed country standards.

But if you can ignore these commercial acts, the cruise is a once a lifetime experience as the 20RMB spot is well worth a bucket list. I went in winter where it was 7 degrees and windy. So do dress sufficiently. Overall, a must visit and a great experience to be part of your bucket list.

Strongly recommended to pay the extra and take this ride from the starting point. One of the clearest waters where the ride will pass through 7 river steps. Riding along with the water ducks, witnessing all the different ranges and rock formations. Best to take this ride towards sunset, you get to see all the beautiful still perfect reflections of the hills all around your raft.

To find the best way to photograph the wise old fisherman and his flock of fawning cormorants, you’d do yourself a favor if you hired a local guide. Usually, English-speaking guides are hard to get, and it becomes even more problematic if you’re looking for an English-speaking guide who can double as your personal chauffeur. So imagine my ecstasy when I could arrange for the latter option without too much hassle. Not only did my guide provide for some great sightseeing tips, he even tipped the fisherman to pose for some candid shots. In the end, I ended up shooting simultaneously with my drone as well as my handheld camera. The landscape I saw rivaled the documentary that catapulted me towards this mission. So, if this was to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I had to make sure I had all my vantage points covered.

Amazing view, part of this wonderful scenery is pictured on the 20 Yuan note. We also took a bamboo raft ride for four people which was memorable and would recommend.

We booked a car to drive us to Yangdi at 7.30 am. We rode on the motorised bamboo raft from Yangdi to Nine Horse Mural Hill. Journey is 45 mins and it costs 90 yuan per person on the 4 seater raft. The life jackets provided are very new and the ride felt very safe. As there were only two of us, we paid extra 60 yuan to book the raft for ourselves. If taking the raft in the morning, one must do it before 9.15 am. We started the ride at about 9 am and we had the whole Li River to ourselves. It was so peaceful and relaxing to sit on the raft admiring the numerous karst hills. This stretch of the Li River is the most scenic.
On arrival at Nine Horse Mural Hill, we walked along the shaded path beside the LI River to Xingping. It took about an hour. Before arriving in Xingping, we saw the 20 yuan viewpoint. There are many stalls here selling fresh fruit juice. After that we crossed a bridge to get into Xingping town. It has many shops catering to the tourists. We ate lunch at Sesame Cafe of This Old Place hostel. The food is delicious and the air-conditioned room is a welcome change. After lunch, we walked to climb the nearby Laozhai Hill. One does not need to climb to the top to get good view, From the pagoda at the foot of the hill, the view is quite good too. After that we walked to the bus station to take the bus to Yangshou. Frequency of bus is every 15 mins and it costs 20 yuan. Bus is very new.
