The walk to the Monument dedicated to Dr Sun Yat Sen was quite nice, as it is covered with a lot of trees. The monument as such isn't that epic, but worth a visit nonetheless.

SWMBO and I didn’t actually plan to go and see this monument, it just of happened. Even though it’s autumn here in GZ the early afternoon temperature still hovers around 30C, so we left it a little later to go to our local post office to send a key to England. After 20 minutes of discussion, form-filling, passport checking and general chat the key was on its way for a whopping ¥280.
The post-office lady was intrigued as to why we were sending a key. Why email a photo and get one made in England? I’ll try that next time!
Anyway, we came out of the post office and then it was decision time was it to be LiuHua Park (TA reviewed) or YueXiu Park (TA reviewed) for a late afternoon stroll. The latter is a couple of bus stops nearer so that’s was an easy decision. The bus stop is amazingly YueXiu park which just happens to be a metro station. We walked down the stairs, then joining the metro throng through the tunnel under JieFang North Road, and then up the escalator and walked the 50 metres to the park’s entrance.
There was no entrance fee or id-check. However, always be prepared and take your passport especially on national holidays.
Anyway, we strolled into the not too crowded and park and decided to stroll anti-clockwise up the hill towards the GuangZhou museum (TA reviewed) which was closed like most museums on Mondays. It’s a pleasant and not too steep walk.
At the top I peered through the railings of the YueXiu stadium which is home to GuangZhou R&F Football Club while SWMBO bought a bottle of water and a packet of biscuits to munch from one of the snack stalls.
We’ve been here many times, but we’ve never been near Dr. Sun Yet-sen’s monument, so I decided now was time. It’s only a hundred metres or so from the GZ Museum entrance and about the same from the Five Rams Statue. Be aware that are many steps up to the monument.
SWMBO didn’t want to go up to the monument as she’s convinced the doctor’s remains are inside and going there will bring bad luck, so I ventured up the steps on my own while SWMBO sat on one of the many benches and checked her WeChat.
Well, it’s a monument all right. I walked round it while taking a few photos on my mobile. I asked a who lad had climbed up to peer in through a heavily barred window what he could see. A shrug of his shoulders told me that the climb hadn’t been worth it!
I descended the steps and joined SWMBO for a drink of water and a biscuit. Now where?
Looking down the steps I spied another monument. Well at least it’s down, so off we went. The steps lead to YueXiu Park’s South Gate at the rear of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Memorial Hall.
I’ve never seen a monument to an office site before! However, this was the site of Dr. Sun Yet-sen’s office. There’s a board with a nice English translation about the site. Suffice to say there’s nothing left of the office.
Now for the climb up the stairs. Mid-way we paused to watch an old lady feeding some of the park’s cats while doing her exercises. Then it was again upwards on onwards towards the bowling green once again passing the stadium where I gave a few cat biscuits to a moggy who was late for the old lady’s largesse. SWMBO gave the rest of my biscuits to the bowling green cat who greets everyone.
We dined in the enormous Zhou Chang restaurant which is well worth a visit. The menu is pictorial and with English translations.
Then it was a ¥17 taxi ride home to feed the five fish, three small turtles and NiuNiu the cat. I was sure the key was by now on its way to England.
As an aside, the header photo is of the entrance to the Memorial Hall on DongFang Middle Road and not this monument.

You need to be fit to walk up the numerous number of steps to reach the Monument, then walking up to the observation terrace in the Monument. Historic landmark and nice refreshing walk, and close to Yuexiu Park and Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.

I would recommend to visit the monument together with Sun Yat Sen Memorial and the Guangzhou Museum as they are within walking distance of each other, The monument is housed in a soothing park & we can see GZ view from the park.

The Zhongshan Scenic Area, has many interesting places in the park to visit. The monument of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, is a climb to get there and you are rewarded with a great view over the park and Nanjing. Most of the information is in Chinese. The monument itself is not special.

A beauty historical building which you can easily reach by Metro in line number 2. If you have limited chinesse language all you can do just walking around and taking picture here. Not that too bad.

The series of parks in Yuexiu area are nice to walk through. When approaching this monument, there are many stairs, but their beauty will distract from the exertion. It is a lovely spot with many families picnicking on the trail up to the monument. The monument itself is nice, if not so interesting because the trees block the view from this highpoint in the park.

This is a brilliant monument near the entrance of Yuexiu park. You are able to go in to the building below and work your way up the stairs, to get a closer looking at the writings on the monument aswell as getting a better view of the surroundings
