The Ancient Quarry of Lotus mountain was quite a beautiful place to explore. The place is quite large and the pagodas, flowers, garden is really lovely. Quite like the mountain backdrop in the garden and the golden statues look really majestic.

Had some visitors in town and we ended up going to the Ancient Quarry of the Lotus Mountain. I've been here before and this time it was also a pleasant experience, except for the bit of rain.

We really enjoyed our visit to Lotus hill. The place is large with RMB 54 entry fee and you can easily spend all day there. Visit will involve a lot of walking but routes are easy and suitable for pushchairs. The lotus fairyland area is modern made and some figurines (like wooden rabbits) dotted around the place seem a little odd. The lotus temple attracts a lot of worshippers and from the hill you have a good view of Guangzhou. My highlight was the ancient quarry. The rocks are impressive and a beautiful sight.

This area is certainly worth a trip, entrance is free and you can stroll almost a full day. There are always activities, the sights are amazing ...

We didn't quite know what to expect. We wanted a hike and several people told us it wasn't "exactly" a hike. They were right... everything is paved and the paths are well marked and easy to follow. That does not take away from the beauty of this location. The views are so nice, the gardens are beautiful, and the grounds are peaceful. We tooling the views of the old quarry and then made our way around to the pagoda and Buddhist temple. It was so amazing... and although not exactly a hike, we put in plenty of steps today. This is a nice break from the bustling life of Guangzhou! I would recommend going!

I've been to Lotus resort before however I wasn't even aware of this part till my second visit. The quarry is pretty impressive and is a good walk. You can even call for a bus to take you back up to the top of the hill which is good as it was very hot when I was there. There's lots of fish and turtles in the ponds at the bottom which is nice. Will definitely return lotus resort is great to visit.

This quarry dates back to the Xihan Dynasty, some 2000 years ago, where Chinese ancestors mined stones for building purposes. Since then, weather has smoothened the rocks and turned them into a beautiful landscape, which can now be experienced by modern tourists. The landscape has been improved by plantings of decorative bushes and flowers, and by careful improvement of paths. In one of the Caves, you will find the hundred mascots engraved, that is a hundred different signs of luckiness written in Chinese.

We still had the whole day until our flight to Germany. We took a taxi to Lotus Mountain (west gate). Alternatively, you can take the 93 bus (exit G - I think - of the metro station). There are ticket machines that you can also use as a foreigner (54 Yuan per person). You can take a shuttle directly to the pagoda. This has to be paid extra - I think 10 yuan per person.
Some paths were closed due to maintenance work. From the pagoda we walked towards Lotus Wall - to the statue - from there we went down the stairs and explored the area from Lotus Pond to white elephant rock. Afterwards we made a detour to Fairyland.
All in all, a beautiful and peaceful park. We spent about 2 hours there.
There are a few restaurants and shops at the East Gate exit.

The Lotus Mountain is a must see destination! To get there by public transport, catch the subway to Shiqi station (for us only one line change) and then catch a number 92 or 93 bus, and then a 10 minute walk, I guess just follow the crowd!
Entry for us was free because we were all over 65 and just needed to show our passports!
We started at Lotus Fairyland, then the Ancient Quarry, then the Lotus wonderful scenery walk, with rocks resembling animals or symbols, caves and lovely waterways with splendid gardens, and in the water you may notice some turtles (see photo), then climbed around 350 stairs to the bronze-made Kwan-yin statue (ranking the tallest in the world), towering over the whole mountain, and then to the Wenchang Pagoda (known as Lotus Pagoda).
The pagoda is an 8-corner brick-build architecture, 50-meter-high, with 9 floors outside and 11 layers inside. You can CLIMB up the pagoda and have a bird’s eye view of the Zhujiang River, as we did! The views are stunning and the staircases up the pagoda are very narrow! I don’t think too many people know about this, as not many climbed it while we were there!
Watch out for all the viewing points, some you need to walk a number of stairs up to, but the views are worth it! Also the facility has maps & signage everywhere, so you shouldn’t miss anything!
The walk around the Lotus Mountain and all the sights, took us around 3 hours, a lot of walking, so at the end we caught a motorised cart to the bottom, at 10 RMB each! We didn’t have lunch, as it’s a Buddhist temple area, there were no meat dishes available, so we went into the city, 5 stops before the subway station for a late lunch!
You won’t be disappointed!
