The memorial is a solemn place to pay a visit. It's near the Ankara river and several Orthodox cathedrals. You will pass it on many ocassions.

I was very impressed with the dedication of the young cadets learning the traditions of honoring the soldiers lost at war. A solemn and valuable experience.

This is a very grand monument to the soldiers who died defending the city and country in the Great Patriotic War. It is absolutely massive in scale with a vast open plaza and an eternal flame mounted on a platform with flower sin the centre....More

Beautiful war monument. While we visited the place, there was some kind of police ceremony being held, which gave the visit an even more special character.

You cannot travel anyplace in Russia without some reminder of WWII. That is how it should be given the enormous sacrifice made fron 1941-1945. The flame is surrounded by names.

Following the green line, the memorial is just behind the House of Soviets. Continue towards the river and the monument of the founder

This classic representation of USSR architecture and the impressive war memorial (and flame) behind it - are definitely worth visiting if you any time to walk around Irkutsk. There is ample signage (in English) describing the Russian (and Irkutsk region) involvement in fighting the Nazis...More

Another peaceful war memorial to those fallen in war, has an eternal flame. Within a couple of minutes walk from Kirov Square, the Cossack statue and the River Agora. Lots of churches in the vicinity.

We would probably have missed this, had we not been taken here by our tour guide. It's humbling to discover the number of lives lost in combat, regardless of nationality. The youth's commitment to guarding the monument is heartfelt and moving.
