This church used to be a swimming pool, yes first was a church, then a pool, then. A church agan. The cool part about it is that you can see all three at the same time. Most definitely a Protestant church, and very plain and simple in its presentation - quite a contrast with the Orthodox churches you see everywhere else. The day I popped in, a service had just ended, and the pastor - in a simple black robe - was greeting worshippers on their way out; a familiarity I doubt exists in the Orthodox... More

A pleasant change from the opulent and sometimes overpowering cathedrals and churches in St. Petersburg ... and an interesting history, given its former use as a swimming pool! Restful and peaceful, a good way to pass a quiet hour or so when touring down Nevsky Prospekt.

This neo-romnesque church was constructed in 1830ies instead of a previous Lutheran church exising in this place since 1730. In 1937 the church was closed and in 1962 transformed into a swimming pool (where I used to swim in 1966 - at the age of 10, not understanding the sacriligeous character of this occupation though it could have been considered...
