A remarkable place to visit. In particular the Cathedral which is the resting places of 12 Tzars and Empresses and the final resting place of the murdered last Royal Family whose remains were only found a few years ago and the remains placed here with their Royal descendants. A bit like visiting Westminster Abbey in London. An unexpected surprise of... More

While this fortress is impressive inside, from the canal gives one the realization of the impressive size and strategic location.

This is where St Petersburg was founded. The cathedral inside the fortress is different to the usual Russian orthodox churches as it started life as a Catholic Church. Lot's of the Russian emporers and their families are buried there.

Outside there were great views along the water. There were some army personnel practising which was interesting. The church itself was ok. The statue of Peter the Great was a little odd. We did not have time to look at the prison. It is a very large complex to wander around and quite scenic

The Fortress is strategically located on Zayachy Island and lies on the banks of the Neva River, making it possible to admire the beauty of St. Petersburg. The beaches along the Fortress are the best beaches in town for sunbathing. You can go by subway and get off at Gorkovskaya station, the first station after crossing the Neva river. Continue... What an absolutely impressive building and the buildings inside the fort are amazing as well. To enter the fort itself is free, but everything else inside there's a entry charge. Amazing place to walk around in and just soak in the atmosphere. The Cathedral is phenomenal. Definitely a must see

We went to this feature late in a tour day. As with many tourist spots in St Petersburg this one will amaze tourists with its extravagance. The gold tower above is a clue. The inside is packed with priceless gold and jewels, not to mention the tombs and histories. A negative is that as most tourist places here it is... More

I enjoyed touring this cathedral/museum fortress because I have an interest in the history of the tzars of Russia. I was with a professional tour guide through TJ Travel and her historical knowledge was vast. She related the stories of tzar family members in crypts right in the cathedral. Very interesting to hear!
