Built to memorialize Alexander II following his assassination in 1881, this magnificent church with Italian pink marble floors and numerous mosaics was modeled after 16th and 17th century churches, contrasting sharply with the prevailing architectural styles.

As you walk towards this Church you go through a quite busy outdoor market selling tourist items and clothing. The outside of the church is wonderful and covered in mosaics and onion domes. But when you go inside the senses go into overdrive with the...More

Would have rather waited and had some control inside. The main church area was hopelessly over crowded and bus tour groups rude and pushy. I would definitely aim next time to arrive early or late, when the bus tours are elsewhere. That said the interior...More

The mosaics are unbelievable! Make sure this is on on your "must see" list when you visit St. Petersburg. The first time I visited the city the church interior was closed for renovation. I will be revisiting when I return to the city next time--I...More

This is a must see if only to show off your pictures! You could easily spend a lot of time inside imagining the history and admiring the ornate artwork.

Yup, St Petersburg has an eyecatcher, and this is it. Make sure you don't miss the outside view of this 'church of balls'. From each angle, day and night, it is beautiful. We also went inside (after that typical waiting line trip). It's crowded but...More

this is a great place to visit, the whole building is stunning, it is very busy, also outside there is a sizeable street market.

Words cannot describe how beautiful this church was, both inside and out! I want to see it again. The mosaics were stunningly detailed, with lots of gold leaf and fantastic colors. A must see for anyone who travels here.

If you really want to see the Church, check to verify that you can take the tour because our tour ( that included the Church as one stop ) did not have access to the church.

Like a Faberge creation. Very unique traditional style Russian church in this classical designed city. Built on the site of Czar Alexander's assassination, hence the name. Beautiful mosaics, enamels and semi precious stones. It just glows in late afternoon sun.

They should do, as it's one of the most important churches in Saint Petersburg. Give them a call :)
