Erarta brings under one roof Russia's largest private Museum of Contemporary Russian Art (with over 2,000 works in its collection) and one of the branches of its international Galleries (others located in London, New York and Zurich). Erarta building with an overall floor space of 8,600 sqm (currently being expanded to 10,200sqm) opened its doors in September 2010 but has already been nominated for Russia's museum of the year in its first year of existence. The Museum is especially worth visiting for its creativity, not only exhibiting other artists' works but also acting as an author itself with unique projects such as "U-Spaces" (total installations created by the Museum itself to immerse the viewer in a particular world), "Theatre with no actors" (the world's only multi-media play whose cast is made up exclusively of characters from paintings with special audio and video effects bringing them to life), "Art-literature" (accompanying essays of experts and regular visitors' thoughts about particular works of art, helping explain what kind of emotions they trigger in others), "Art-animation" (videos and cartoons transforming a two-dimensional painting into a story prolonged in time). Erarta building also has a restaurant, a cafe and several museum shops offering gifts, prints and books and is open every day (except for Tuesdays) from 10am to 10pm

Creative space, with art that gives you a glimpse into Russia's soul. A great counterpoint to the Hermitage. The special exhibits which are separate low cost add on admissions, are worth it...they're interactive art spaces, just you and a few friends, to play in the dark with art.

Dear DrugDoc, thank you very much for your kind words about Erarta - we indeed hope to provide all visitors with a glimpse into Russia from a different standpoint. Erarta is unique as a museum as it doesn't just exhibit others' creativity but is also actively engaged in its own - the interactive art spaces you mentioned (called U-spaces) were... More

Saint Petersburg doesn't actually have much to offer in the evenings to foreigners when it comes to culture - it's either ballet (which I didn't want to attend - not my thing) and from what my concierge told me, Erarta museum which is open late. All I can say is that I'm delighted that I followed his recommendation and made... More

A fantastic modern and very welcoming museum. As solely an English speaker it was great that attention was paid to my requirements and I was made to feel at ease. As for the art itself, Erarta revealed quality and depth, highlighting the linkages from the early 1950s rebels who went against the communist party and the continuity provided to those... More

Dear Bidinloo, thank you for taking the time to visit Erarta while in Saint Petersburg! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed yourself and as for our efforts to make our English-speaking guests feel at home, it's the least we can do! As for our collection, it contains works of arts created starting in the 1950s like you mentioned all... More

Had a great evening at Erarta and really appreciated that it's the only cultural place which was open so late. There's no excuse for not visiting this place since you can always come here after whatever you have planned during the day and I'm sure it'll end up being that day's highlight

Really enjoyed the modern art here, especially as a contrast to the oodles of classical art that you experience in most of St. Petersburg. This place is a little off the beaten path, and I suspect that's why there were only a handful of people in the building on the Friday I visited. And that's really too bad, because I... More

Great place, lots of positive impressions, highest-ranking of those is the fact that I was approached by one of their girls on reception while walking around, was asked if I was finding everything alright, needed any help and she even told me a little bit about the exhibition in English. Rest of Russia could really do with taking a page... More
