House in a former Japanese administration building this museum displays both ethnographic and natural exhibits of Sakhalin Island, and history of the island. Interesting to those with a particular focus on recent Japanese history and peoples of the Sakhalin.

The museum is located in a historic Japanese building. It isn't very big, just several halls on 2 floors. A good start if you want to know where you are - one hall is about animals, the rest are dedicated to history.

I found - it's very interesting place. Very professional guides. Rich ethnographic exposition. A lot of things to think regarding Rus-Jap relations. It's more complicate I've seen before...

Lots of diverse and interesting exhibits, I learned a lot about the Island natural history, indigenous peoples and human geography. Well worth a visit. Gardens nice too - sit in the sun and people watch during the summer
