On our Viking cruise this was one of my favorite places to visit. Although not as big as Moscow or St. Petersburg it has many of the amenities of bigger cities. The Governor's Mansion is a must see. This beautiful building houses a great collection of Russian art. There are two famous churches and at least two beautiful parks. It's... More

As part of our river cruise in Russia we stopped at Yaroslav. This is a showcase of how a city can be a gracious hostess to visitors. Museums, historical period recreations on the life of the governor' Family. Fantastic quartet of voices, impressive churches and monasteries and people who are gracious. Worth spending more than one day here if you... More

We were treated to a concert in the ballroom and it was wonderful!!! That was followed by some dancing demonstrations of the period and it was very interesting.

Arrived in the quaint Golden Ring city of Yaroslavl, Russia on May 30, 2014. This city is one of the oldest, back to the days of the Vikings. We saw the fortified Transfiguration of the Savior Monastery & Cathedral, the oldest building in Yaroslavl, dating back 800 years. Proceeded to the Yaroslavl Museum of Russian Art housed in the 18th... More

Yaroslavl is another town outside Moscow that forms the Golden Ring.Noteworthy are the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery and St.John the Baptist church with its 15 domes. During Stalin's time many of the churches were either blown up or were converted to uses other than as churches. In these towns now a great deal of restoration work is being done on these churches.... More

We stopped in Yaroslavl on our Russian river cruise going down the Volga River. It is one of the oldest Russian towns, founded in 1010 (one and a half century earlier than Moscow). Since the end of the 16th century, Yaroslavl became a big trade town. The English chose the town as the inside harbor for storage of their goods... More

Rostov the Great is a many century old Kremlin (fortress) containing many fine examples of Russian orthodox churches at this site where the Patriarchate once sat. These churches contain many fine examples of Russian Orthodox iconostasis. Within the kremlin walls is an excellent museum of Rostov enamel which is world-famous. This day trip from Yaroslavl to Rostov the Great is... More

We took a Viking River Cruise from Moscow to Saint Petersburg with a stop in Yaroslavl. There were several points of interest in this small city, They were Spassky Monastery/Church of Elijah the Profit built in the 12th Century, Governor's House, and Tolga Convent near Yaroslavl.

Yaroslavl is a small, but important town in Russia's history and culture. It was formally Russia's economic, political, and cultural centre. Places worth visiting are the Governor’s house, with its original features intact and beautifully decorated, furnished rooms. Among the treasures on display were a pair of chests dating back to 1600s, two of only six worldwide. Our guides were... More
