We enjoyed our visit. It is not very large but has excellent art works relating to the Russian Theatre and Bakhrushin and his circle. Well preserved house too. We liked the set and costume designs. Reasonable price. Don't miss the desk in the basement near the coat check.

This was a fairly small but enjoyable museum. It focused on ballet and technical design of theatre in Russia, but also provided information about the royal patronage and development of theatre culture. There are lots of cool old drawings, pictures, props, and costume pieces. To me, the old drawings, sketchings, paintings and photos were interesting just as art, even if you're not too into theatre. There are some signs in English, unfortunately not translated perfectly. There are also several multimedia exhibits, where you can read info in Russian and English, listen to things, and learn about items.

The museum is fully dedicated to the Theatre in Russia. The founder and previous owner of the manor, in main building of which the museum is located, had started to gather a collection of everything related to the world of Theatre of Russia in the days of his wealthy youth and continued to do so till his death in poverty.
So you can imagine what this collection is. It is situated in former owner’s dwelling house, so I could look at owner’s private office, rooms of his family and so on. All of them are filled with different things – dresses, theatrical and ballet costumes, affiches, tickets, books, paints, drawings, personal belongings of the famous people (and not so), … - from different epochs – XVIII, XIX, XX - …
Very impressive …

Bakhrushin is a jewel of a museum. Anyone who loves theatre, opera, ballet or music will adore this place. Treasure after treasure..... Designs, photos, lithos, shoes of Taglioni, Pavlova & others, Shaliapin memorabilia, hand written note by Tchaikovsky re: Nutcracker & so much more. All signs are in Russian. Didn't bother me as I was able to recognize the dancers in the photos - there was an English speaking lady who pointed out a few things I would have missed otherwise. I'm so glad I went. Very easy to find. Left out of metro; to the next corner. Ask which exit to take when you come out of Metro.
