Moscow's Peter the Great monument definitely stands out at 322 feet of stainless steel, bronze, and copper and is housed less than a mile from the famous Kremlin wall. The monument, created by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, depicts the Russian czar at the wheel of a ship with a document in his hands.

In the middle of Moskva river this statue represents in a very interesting way this historical personage. The flags are moving.

Can be seen on the walk from Alexander Gardens to Gorky Park. It sits on a small island next to Muzeon Park and dwarfs all in its surrounding. Worth a specific visit? Not so sure. Worth a same detour to see? Absolutely.

It is important to commemorate Peter the Great for establishing the Russian navy, but this statue is an odd way of doing so. The art work looks like something along the road in a tourist area meant to draw attention while giving a nod to...More

This is a huge statue to commemorate Peter the Great. It's located in the Moscow river itself not too fare from the Christ the Saviour cathedral and also not too far from Gorky Park. Because of its huge size it is visible for some distance....More

We first saw the Peter the Great Monument while on a dinner cruise. What a sight! It's impressive, fun, whimsical and majestic all at the same time. Later we saw it from the New Tretyakov Gallery and it was just as impressive.

This huge monument was errected in 1997 and is subject to much argument. It is certainly intimidating but why is it in Moscow when Peter the Great made the capital of Russia St Petersburg? Seems the people of St Petersburg didnt want it.

We went especially to see this statue. After seeing his cabin in St Petersburg I wanted to see the statue honoring him in Moscow.

This small almost invisible statue shows you how Russia loves understatments. If you have troubles finding this monument you must be blind or in the wrong city. We really wonderd how they put this thing together...we guessed in several centuries some conspiracy theorists will think...More

This monument sits in the Moskva River between Gorky Park and the Cathedral of the Christ the Savior, at the tip of an island. At first, just the 15th century sailing ship is noticeable with its furled 3 masts and rows of ropes. The ship...More
