We had a few hours to kill before leaving for the airport so took the metro 4 stops to this museum from our hotel near Red Square. Don't confuse it with the other Tretyakov gallery which is in a different location. I'm so glad we...More

Have you heard of Valentin Serov? I guess not, unless you are a very wealthy art dealer – a not so well-to-do art dealer won’t afford it, the painter was not only talented but quite successful, too; a rare case among his colleagues, they mostly...More

In a wonderful riverside location this is an immense gallery with masses of art and sculpture to see. I found the pictures from the revolution and and the Stalinist regime particularly poignant.

What a sensational collection in a great space. We were blown away by the quality and variety of the collection of Russian art from 1900 to today. Literally today, there were several "performance artists" performing throughout the permanent collection. The Soviet era is well represented...More

If you plan to visit museums in Moscow, this one is a must. A wonderful place to see art at it's greatest. Have lunch or dinner at the resaturant next door, it's excellent.

I got there through snow and ice and it was well worth while, especially an exhibition of the period of the 1950s 'Thaw' showing some fine artworks and other art from this neglected time, very nostalgic and also the dawn of the 'space age'. Lots...More

My guidebook said it would take about 15 minute walk from the main Tretyakov Gallery to the New Tretyakov. People at the main Gallery also sounded like the New Gallery was not too far. So we decided to walk from the Main Tretyakov Gallery to...More

Yakimanka acts as Moscow’s evergreen lungs with prime
beaches on the Moscow river. All the benefits of
visiting and living in Yakimanka are gathered at the
Moscow river embankment – three parks: Gorky, Muzeon
and Neskuchny garden shape this green stripe with
museums showing the hippest contemporary art. The area
is full of activities for your eyes (museums), mouth
(restaurants) and feet (sport and dance-wise). Access
