The Citadel is beautiful; there are no signs or self-guides so you must hire a guide. You only need 1 hour for the visit. Confortable shoes and sunscreen.

Excellent ruins. Neat to see the former center of the Chimu kingdom. We got a guide at the site who was excellent. Much of the adobe complex has been washed away (roofs). But the scale of the site is incredible. Nice to see preserved portions. Nearby huaca el dragon is currently closed. We paired this with trip to playa Huanchaco.

Huge archeological site outside Trujillo, well done, you can walk on the site and explore some nice remains of this important site. I would recommend to take a guide who can explain to you all details.

This was the center of the Chimu empire. It existed for about 500 years, before being conquered by the Incas in the late 1400s. If you're into pre-Columbian archeology, as I am, this site is a must-see.

Great place we used mundo clutral travel and they took car of everything for us. We saw this the museum both were really cool. So much great history in Trujillo Peru we loved every minute.

Chan Chan (literally sun sun) was the largest city of the pre-Columbian era in South America. It was probably constructed around 850 AD. The archaeological site covers an area of approximately 20 square kilometers. The central area is formed by a Pull Stone Island Homme set of 10 walled enclosures (called "citadels"). We visited just one of these citadels.
It was the Chimor empire capital city with an estimated population of 40,000–60,000 people. After the Inca conquered the Chimú around 1470 AD, Chan Chan fell into decline.
We visited as part of a tour from the Holland America ship, Volendam.
Highly recommended.

Liked the museum more than the archeological adobe site. The latter is extensive and rather exposed to sun and dust. Moreover it is difficult to imagine which purpose each structure served. The museum gives you a better idea of how people lived during pre Hispanic (and even pre Inca) times. Pelicans, fish, llama, but also hairless dogs are often depicted on pottery. The maquettes of the towns also give you an impression of how life evolved. Images of indigenous people are impressive as well.
Admission 10 Soles (valid for four sites, of which only two can be easily reached).
I walked from Turjillo to the sites, but the regular (frequent) bus to Huanchaco also stops at the museum and at the adobe site. It costs 1.5 Sol (one way).

Ancient ruins uncovered in Peru and very interesting. Unfortunately the government does not have the money to carry on with the excavation of these sites but that have great value

The appeal of this intriguing archaeological site has not eroded since my last visit 20 years ago. Very well presented and preserved, excellent museum and a 10 minute video that is nothing short of outstanding (do not miss). Just one downside: the relentless onslaught of the touts, guides and taxi drivers is unattractive to the point of dishonesty. Resist-ignore and enjoy.

Wear a hat and sunblock. The visit is mostly outdoors, and the sun and wind are strong. The size of the city and buildings is impressive.

La entrada es de 10 Soles para adultos y creo que estaba 4 siles para los niños.
Como puedo reservar los museos huaca arco iris y la zona arqueológica el Chan Chan.

Mejor comprarlo en el sitio y contar con tiempo pues los lugares están un poco separados unos de otros y si no llueve, hace un sol de justicia.
Hay bastantes "taxistas" que se ofrecen a llevarte de un lugar a otro. Regatea sin piedad. Las distancias no son excesivamente largas, sólo incómodas.
Hay descuento para universitarios ??

la rutina de toda la visita a la ciudadela es a pie.
para llegar a la ciudadela puedes hacerlo en taxi, micro, etc; pero una vez dentro de la ciudadela es a pie.
te recomiendo, en verdad que ni cuenta te vas a dar del tiempo transcurrido.

Je suis à la recherche d'un moyen simple pour visiter les sites archéologiques autour de Trujillo et si possible avec un guide francophone. Je ne suis pas contre un tour organisé à condition qu'il vaille le coup. Je recherche cela pour mes grands parents qui profitent d'un voyage au pérou pour un mariage et souhaitent visiter un peu, mais ils ne parlent pas espagnol...

Depuis Trujillo les différents sites sont tous très accessibles en taxi. Ayant visité tous ces sites sans guide je n'en connais aucun. Toutefois je suis persuadé qu'il doit y avoir des tours opérateurs dans Trujillo qui proposent ce type service.

Sinceramente non lo so, ma se vai in piazza ci sn un sacco di tour operator, che ti portano con 30/35 soles tutto il giorno a fare il tour, ti portano anche al ristorante per mangiare.
Saben cuanto cuesta la entrada a Chan Chan? Y si esta abierto entre semana o solo los fines de semana? Espero su respuesta, por favor.

Visité Chan Chan el 23 de setiembre. La entrada es de 10 soles (Adultos) y tienes derecho a visitar la ciudadela, el museo de sitio y dos huacas más (pequeñas). No todo está en el mismo lugar, por eso debes contratar un taxi u otro vehículo.
Yo fui con mi esposa y dos hijas pequeñas. El taxista me cobró 60 soles. Me esperó en cada lugar y al final me dejó en un restaurante de Trujillo.
El lugar es impresionante y vale la pena. Dentro de la ciudadela hay guías que por 40 soles te explican todo. Con la recomendación del taxista pagué 2 soles por un folleto que te sirve de guía mientras visitas las plazas y ambientes de la imponente ciudadela.

We had a private English speaking guide and we had a long day but did visit Huacas in the morning then lunch then Chan Chan. I do feel you need a guide as previously stated there is not much information on site.
