We were on our trip from Florida to California. The Gatun Lock was the first one from that direction. It was very interesting to see the procedure to attach the lines and move the ship through the locks.

Miraflores. It has a visitor centre from which you get great views of the ships manoeuvring through. Very interesting, and great fun. Enjoy.

I too am not sure if old center is open for business. We were picked up by bus and our guide did mention the new visitor center. Unfortunately, it wasn't part of the tour.
