There has been a mix of reviews for the Gatun Locks and Agua Clara Locks in this post. Please note, that they are actually 2 different locks located about 10-15 min away from each other. Don't get confused. Gatun Locks is the lock that allows you to stand the closest to the ships as they transit through the Panama Canal.

We visited the Gatun Locks as a part of a full day trip. It was very interesting, we toured the lower area, our guide explained that in the future people will be able to view the locks from the very top. It is an amazing system. I would do it again if i get the opportunity

The Gatun Locks are must see!!! We traversed the Locks at night. The process is incredibly interesting, and the scenes create an outstanding photo opportunity!!!

The new canal locks just opened in June & the new visitor center is a real gem!! While there is really only a movie and a pamphlet that you get it is well worth the $15 entrance fee. The place is like a park with picnic tables and even a nice sit down restaurant too. And the view from the... More

There are a few exhibits old locomotives used to steady the ships and a few large cogs but information is a bit thin on the ground. The real attraction is watch huge ships passing through at close hand. No real facilities coffee shop souvenirs etc and unfortunately you can't stop at the new lock

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to view the locks and was lucky enough to see 2 containers passing through, the different view points were easy to view from and covered. We were also lucky enough to travel through the locks on another day, which was awe inspiring to view this marvel of engineering.

Brilliant site for seeing how the canal works. We drove over the new canal to get here and were able to see how everything works at close hand. The commentary in the viewing platform is really good, focuses on the facts and the key questions. Great for taking photos and videos, though the platform can get very crowded as people... More

Very interesting, nice beautiful landscape. Great to see a boat pass from Gatun lake to the Atlantic Ocean. The presentation video quite interesting too and good size. It is interesting that while seeing the new canal in operation, on the background one may be able to see other boats passing by using the old canal !

But what a difference it made building the Panama Canal on the worlds maritime travel networks! It was a common story that should have been learned by the French before they turned up in the 1880s thinking they could just waltz through the jungle and carve a channel through the Panama Isthmus. There had been plenty of examples in the... More
