Amazing clean beaches. Amazing mountain drive. Steep climb down and up the road to access the beach. Great place for a dip in the sea. Highly recommended

Went here as part of the Western Salalah tour with our amazing tour guide Mohammed Rafit Ali (who is well known in Salalah) and he took us to this amazing beach going through canyons and onto a 5km dusty road to get to this stunning beach. The sea was turquoise blue and the beach was very clean - definitely a must visit

Mind blowing, drive to the beach from the top is one of the most memorable drive in life. Suggest not to drive late evenings, drive to the beach only if you have good vehicle.

Absolutely amazing place. Much better to have 4WD car. The road is a bit bumpy... There was a bit rain, but we were there almost alone (not counting camels)...

We loved the place and agree with all the positive reviews. However, there is no need at all for a 4X4 to get there. True, it is an offroad driving but the track is good and stable and if you drive carefully an slowly, you can do the 5.5 kms in 15 minutes.

Located about 30 minutes drive west of Al Mughsail, Al Fazayah beach is a must see. But Bottom Line Up Front, you don’t need a 4WD, but you do need a SUV to do this safely and responsibly.

So getting there. Continue past Al Mughsail. You will come to a steep descent into a valley with multiple switchbacks (and a bit of a diversion where a new bridge is under construction to cross the valley, though at what cost and for such little traffic confounds my logic), before climbing the other side with more multiple switchbacks. Just as you get to the top and a sweeping right-hand bend, there is a blue sign indicating Al Fizayah to the left.

Now this is where it gets interesting. The drive to the beach is 6km long and descends a couple of thousand feet. It’s a dirt track, in places pretty steep and with big drops on the seaward side, and when combined with the deep ruts, needs care. We had a SUV, which coped just fine in dry conditions (there were six of us in a SUV and a car, we parked the car in a small parking area by the junction and all piled into the SUV). We never felt we needed 4WD capability. But we did see people going down in rental cars. If you choose to do this, you will need to accept the risk of grounding the car or getting a puncture. You’re a long way from help, and have probably broken the insurance terms and conditions so recovery could be expensive.

The last bit of the descent gives sweeping views of the most beautiful beach I have ever been to, a vista complemented by the extraordinary rock formations. There are lots of small parking ‘pads’; park up, apply sun cream, swimming kit on, grab camera and go!

Walking along the water’s edge is delightful, letting the gentle waves lap around our feet. We took to the water too for a refreshing swim, seeing no evidence of the rip tides that are quite common off Salalah. Take time to look around the rock formations too; you will see hundreds of crabs feeding, and trilobite fossils too. You can walk for miles if you wish, or just pick a spot and base yourself there. A sun shelter if planning to picnic is a good idea.

And take a bag too, sadly, despite its remoteness, the sea still washes plastic bottles and bits of fishing net ashore. Do a bit of litter picking to preserve what should be a perfectly pristine place.

At the far end of the beach is a fishing shack and some boats. We drove down there, and were lucky enough to see some fishermen sorting their catch. We could take photos of the catch, but not of them.

Al Fizayah is a truly beautiful place. So to the reviewer who awarded it two stars because they visited on a foggy day, words simply fail me!

Very beutiful beach. You are completly alone. Must have a 4WD to access it because the last few kilometers are on a dirt road.

What a place...the road there is a bit difficult, 4x4 better but I have seen sedans going on it.
We went there in February which is off season in Salalah but the weather was perfect 28-30 C, water perfect, clean, very few people. First day was no one, second time we went there were a couple of cars.
The rocks give the landscape a very photographical feeling, coupled with the colour of the water...paradise.
