Huge Fort complex in Bahla

Nicely renovated, fairly large fort complex in Bahla. No furniture or decoration, but many rooms to explore. Some rooms house bats, don’t get scared when you startle them. The... read more

A lot of homework for this fort to make it better and well prepared as a tourist destination. Front staff, I had a problem in communication even just small explanation or short story about this fort. Also, this place has lack of facilities such as signage, detail lay-out and story, and I saw the rest of boulders of the restoration... More

This is oldest fort in Oman- over 800 years old. Restoration is not complete. No labeling or audio so we did not know what rooms were used for. It was big and nice and it helped that we had been to other forts and had an idea of what these forts were about.

Recently restored, this is probably the largest fort in the area. It is great to wander round, we were there on a Thursday in April and it was very quiet, almost had the place to ourselves. There didn't appear to be an audio guide, and there wasn't really any signage, also the rooms have very little in them so it... More

Some years down the line, Bahla Fort is now open. For a few baisa it is possible to spend at least an hour here. Room after room has been meticulously restored and there are enough original doors and items to lend it real authenticity. It would be good for some local furniture and decoration to add to the atmosphere but... More

Still undergoing renovation prior to being opened to the public but a quick stop in the car park gives you a real sense of the time ... With ruins at its base, still to be renovated, worth a stop to check it all out. Our guide tells us this should be opened later in 2017 ...

This was the largest of the three forts we visited on a day trip from Muscat (the others were Nizwa and Jabrin). It appears to have only been recently restored (our guide knew very little about it) and there was a conspicuous lack of signage about what we were looking at. Like the Nizwa fort, the restoration had been somewhat... More

Very beautiful. However the opening times are very limited. It will be closed at 4 pm so that make sure you go on time.

This fort is huge, probably one of the largest anywhere. Took us more than 2 hours just to cover the whole place. Be prepared to walk alot! It is a magnificent complex, and the the architecture is impressive. One can almost imagine that when it was being in use in the past, the fort complex would be almost like a... More

It's quite a beautiful castle. Unfortunately it was closed at the time I went there with some friends. I recommend to stroll around the castle through the narrow passages in the ancient old town around.
