Extensive Medina just off the Spanish ramparts running for several hundred metres each way. Some very tiny alleys especially around the old Jewish Quarter which was deserted in the 1960's but many Jewish stars remain above the old doorways. Loads of items to haggle for but we were not pressurised in any way, unlike Marrakech. Well worth a visit!

Makes a nice change from the narrow, hot alleyways of Marrakech. Much smaller and more manageable, with some interesting ocean inspired artisans for your souvenirs, or your inner, interior designer. The ramparts for the harbour view, cool breezes and a different perspective of the market shops below, make this a very different Moroccan experience, from the souks in the capital... More

Lovely medina with style and character. Shopkeepers didnt hassle and you could look as much as you wanted. Great food from cheap to fine dining and lots of art and crafts

Stayed at the Medina hotel , very nice staff obliging,, close to all amenities. We covered our upper arms and knees, when we were walking about, not compulsory, but felt comfortable doing this.

Being so close to the ocean makes this Medina a delight to stroll through. It's possible to buy the freshest of just caught fish, have it grilled, and devour it at a table nearby.

Great for slow paced shopping. Not like Marrakech. A must of course when in Essaouira. Plenty of stalls selling anything from food to wood crafts. Make sure you walk on the top of the wall. The view is amazing.

So much better than Marrakesh, relax and lovely peoples. Easier to shop and good restaurant. The beach is beautiful and there so much to do!

A wonderful experience even for the well travelled tourist. The nicest aspect is that the locals are extremely friendly and not at all aggressive when selling their wares. There's not much negotiation but it was a true delight and a relaxed experience compared with other Medina and Souk experiences elsewhere.

Lovely shopping in the souks and first hand experience of life inside the Medina. I think it is better than Marraketch because the sell is not so hard and the prices are very good
