I spent several hours in this Medina. It's very artistically driven. We were there during the Jazz festival weekend and I particularly noticed the large number of artisans. There are not too many food vendors. I bought a nice pair of leather shoes that I...More

If your travels allow, make time for this city and its medina. It is alive with local trade near Bab doukala and filled with friendly vendors. You can pick up a bag of olives and dates for mere pennies and munch your way through the...More

A much quieter Medina than Marrakech with a more European feel. We spent a couple of hours wondering around and stopped for lunch and a drink when we went back before getting our coach home. There's nothing different for sale really but a pleasant place...More

The medina is compact but so friendly. Sitting at a cafe drinking mint tea or vervein inevitably got you into conversation with others. Haggling over a scarf or shirt was a pleasure and less aggressive (if that's the right word) than, say, Marrakech. The medina is...More

It's easy to find your way around, easier than the bigger cities anyway. The store owners are gentle and kind and much less hassling than bigger cities. I found prices reasonable.

We enjoyed the Medina in Essaouira. Very beautiful and many good restaurants. The wind was very strong however.

The medina at Essaouira is friendlier than Marrakech and you rarely get hassled and when you do they will give up quickly if you are clear you're not wanting to do business.

Liked more than Marakesh medina. Very cosy and alive. Many good and not expensive places to eat. Different attractions (camel riding, wind surffing, markets, spa).

The medina in Essaouira is fabulous: it is incredibly pretty and atmospheric, and caters pretty much for anyone. Students, hippies and the generally budget conscious can dine on hot falafal wraps, chocolate crepes or chicken brochettes for as little as 20 dirhams, while foodies with...More

It's about 2 hours from Marrakesh, costs about 1000 Dhs for private car. Ours was easily arranged by our Dar (small hotel).
