Moroccan people are amongst the friendliest and politest people I have met. The Medina is a beautiful car free zone.

Essaouria is good for shopping (a lot of inexpensive items) but not much else. Nice pictures of the boats at the wharf, but that doesn't take more than 15 minutes.

Not as chaotic or narrow as the medinas of Marrakech or Fes, the vibe of Essaouira's old city reflects its casual oceanfront locale. Plenty of little eateries (some terrible, some gems), loads of market stalls selling anything from knitted sweaters to crafted metal work, trinkets,...More

A short walk from the Medina is the wonderful beach and interesting fishing port. Find Abdullah and he will give you the history of the place for a few Dirams.! (cant spell it)

Essaouira Medina is a colorful, fascinating place to visit. It is filled with wonderful shops with no too pushy assistants, an abundance of fabulous restaurants, amazing Atlantic views, a working fishing port & many amazing Riads hidden behind big doors in lots of alleys.

It's about 2 hours from Marrakesh, costs about 1000 Dhs for private car. Ours was easily arranged by our Dar (small hotel).
