Choose either the very beginning or the very end of the beach to gain more solitude. Some snorkelling, but coral is of very poor quality. Sea urchins are in the sand by the 1000s in this area, so do not walk into beach without wearing beach shoes with hard solesVisited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 19 December 2022

It is very popular but there are places to find more secluded spots. The beach is clean, but there is rather a lot of dead coral and seaweed to navigate.Visited January 2023Written 8 January 2023

The beach is a lovely space with white sands, blue waters and shady spots under the trees higher up. The beach has a welcoming atmosphere with many families, celebrations and gatherings to be seen. - itsnotthateasySwitzerland22 contributionsOne of the best beaches in MauritiusI deducted a star as I compare it against other beaches in the world like the ones in Maldives, Mediterranean, Caribbean and in Pacific islands. However it is one of the best beaches in Mauritius. Flic en Flac on a sunny day is just so stunningly beautiful. When I arrived at Hilton Mauritius I was so impressed by the long stretch of the beach with the beautiful light blue water colour. It also presents with stunning sunsets on sunny days. Snorkeling is ok. Snorkeling spots are far in the water marked by red buoy (at least the ones in front of Hilton). We snorkeled here, turtle bay, Mont Choisy and Ile aux Cerf. The snorkeling is not spectacular any where. In Flic en flac, I saw a moray eel, box fishes, butterfly fishes, flute fish, lion fishes, trigger fishes, small giant clams, brain coral a few smaller starborn corals and soft corals. Most corals there are brain corals. Be ware of urchins and lion fishes. There is also a warning for stone fish but that I did not find. For swimming and snorkeling, the water can be on the shallow side. Morning high tide is advisable because fishes are more active and it tends to be sunnier in the morning. High tide is important as otherwise it can be really shallow. The swimming zone (marked in yellow) was mostly free of urchins. However, it does not mean that no urchins can move in!! When I swim for snorkeling, I saw a few urchins even inside the swimming zone in front of the hotels. Besides, there are a lot of broken corals on the beach (this is the same to every beach we’ve been to in Mauritius including the famous Ile aux Cerf). So, it is safer to wear swimming shoes for playing in the sea. For hiking, the visible sandy patch was pretty soft and I walked on my bare feet with a bit of attention to avoid any broken corals or tree branches.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 November 2023

The beach is great. But I am writing to warn you about unscrupulous sellers of excursions. I attached a photo of the boat. Ordered alternately 2 excursions from a woman (WA +230 5773 4365) the second tour began to be postponed, allegedly because of the weather. And as a result, we waited the whole vacation for a refund and never received it.

Lots of sea weed and dead corals on beach so can look unsightly. Snorkeling is great by the police station and food trucks.

Beach views were amazing, beach shoes are needed in the water as there is coral, sea urchins etc. Sand is soft on upper beach however surface is rougher in water in some areas. Sea was warm & some trade people but never really bothered us.

It's very long beach so you can walk down until you find a spot that suits you, has a lovely sunset. Popular with locals without being overcrowded, plenty of bars and restaurants lining the road behind the beach. There is shade under trees behind the beach. It seemed clean to me and plenty of areas you can go in the sea. I thought it was a very nice beach.

Bonjour,

Escursioni a 15 minuti di auto dovresti andare al Casela World of Adventures i prezzi variano in base all'attrazione.
Posto magico senza dubbio.
Buon Viaggio....

I visited in Oct.2018 ,as it was the best season to visit Mauritius ,from Dec.onward the rains start.and weather remains uncertain, So it is not easy to say you should cancel the trip, weather may or may not be pleasant during your trip, if one or two days out of 14 days visit goes waste due to bad weather or rains even than it would not be a bad trip.but your itinerary of spoiled days would definitely be affected.rest is your luck.

Are there any local restaurants or bars near to La Pirogue hotel ??

Yes, there are a few close to the resort side, however further down into the main part of Flic en Flac there are many.
Can walk down or grab a bus- PS- you can flag buses down even outside the bus stops.just like you do the taxis.
The Chinese- you will know which one is the second best Chinese on the island (per locals). The street vendors on the edge of the beach are usually of good quality and nice prices- things are cooked fresh to order so can take a while.
Don’t have Italian unless dining in the resorts/ hotels. Even locals go to the hotels if they want Italian.

It's better to have cash with you. Exchange your currency. Use Mauritian Rupees. You can exchange at the airport.

Hi all, I’m exploring Flic En Flac as a destination at the moment for anniversary and 40th bday trip. We’re not foody people and just want a good beach to relax for a week. Debating hotel with HB or Air BnB. If we Air BnB, what are food options in the area and do you advise we rent a car? Thanks in advance :-)

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in flicenflac. Taxis are expensive when they see tourist be careful. If you are confident hire a car as it willl be easy to explore and there are some lovely beaches where you can swim and places of interest to visit.Enjoy your holiday
